The combination of skills at that size and age is too much to pass up. When he's on, he reminds me of young Paul George. I just wish he wasn't so up and down. But that inconsistency could be due to him trying to find his role on a stacked team.

Have to agree. And if his game translates to the NBA like it should, wow:

Huerter
Reddish
Collins

Keep an eye on Kevin Pelton's rankings. He had Luka #1 and Trae #3, the highest ranking any model gave Trae. Also had Kevin Heurter at #11, the highest any model for him as well.

In my opinion, I think you bring Reddish in for a workout and decide off of that if whether his poor shooting is a worry. If he does well, then I think I wouldn't mind gambling and taking the risk there.

I can't get what I've seen about prospects with a poor shooting line and their NBA success out of my mind though. I think if it works he probably really "is" at least a year or two away and you probably either keep Prince or sign a veteran SF to not put too much on him too quickly. But if it does, then imagining him with Trae/Collins/Huerter is fun.

I don't know what is wrong with Okpala. At the first half of the season, he was hitting 50% from three and 75% from the free throw line, but in his last 10 games, he is only hitting 21% from three and 62% from the free throw line.

I pegged him as the next Rashard Lewis, but this slump he is going through right now has me worried about him being a legit top 10 pick.

Don't let a 10 game sample (or even couple of months) sway you too much in either direction on these kids. Can you imagine if we'd passed on Trae Young because he struggled his last two months of college?

It's a part of the scouting. But not the entire story.

KZ's cold stretch this season, combined with his underwhelming freshman season, is of much more concern to me.

It's hard to scout guys after one year of college. If they go back to drafting high school seniors it's going to be a complete crapshoot.

2019 NBA Draft Prospects with the Most to Prove in March
These prospects could make or lose millions of dollars based on their stretch-run performances while NBA teams finalize their in-season evaluations.

Cam Reddish (Duke, SG/SF, Freshman)
Image

Draft ceiling: No. 3

Draft floor:
Late lottery

Once Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett are off the board, the team drafting third overall will at least look at Cam Reddish. But a disappointing March could be costly, given his frustrating inconsistency and inefficiency through February.

Reddish won't want scouts to look back on his full body of work and see a 36.5 percent field-goal mark, 33.6 three-point percentage, more turnovers (76) than assists (61) and a player who buckled when the pressure was highest. Because with a month left of college basketball, Reddish should feel a sense of urgency in terms of his draft stock and helping Duke advance in the postseason.

He will benefit from scouts' having seen him before college—whether it was on the high school All-Star circuit or during the U19 World Cup. Reddish established coveted long-term potential before he ever played an NCAA game, and that should help prevent him from falling too far, regardless of how the rest of his season goes.

But it will seem like less of a gamble to draft Reddish in the top five if he dials back in during the ACC and NCAA tournaments. And the upcoming games without the injured Williamson (knee) are also crucial, as it gives Reddish extra on-ball opportunities to create and scouts more chances to evaluate him in a featured role.

With breakout prospects like Murray State's Ja Morant, Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver and Virginia's De'Andre Hunter, plus another handful freshmen who've been more effective, another underwhelming stretch could lead to a mini-slide down boards for Reddish.

Cam Reddish
Jarrett Culver
DeAndre Hunter

We get 2 of those three and we are golden. Seems like a long shot but you never know, we have assets to move and wiggle about the draft.

In case we don’t land Zion.

Schlenk is playing some real chess here...wow.

2019 NBA Mock Draft: 1st-Round Projections 2 Weeks Before March Madness

5. Atlanta Hawks: Cam Reddish (Duke, SG/SF, Freshman)

Image

The Atlanta Hawks take the fourth-most threes in the league, making Cam Reddish a fitting addition to the rotation.

His brutal two-point inefficiency (41.4 percent) would make Cleveland and Chicago pass in this draft order. But the Hawks should see value in Reddish's 2.6 threes per game and flashes of defensive playmaking and instincts.

He'd give Atlanta another interchangeable wing/forward to join Kevin Huerter and Taurean Prince.
Based on their roster and the projected field, it would make sense to take Reddish at No. 5 and potentially target a big with the Dallas Mavericks pick, which they receive if it's not in the top five.
Bleacher Report

Spoiler:
8. Atlanta Hawks (via Mavericks): Jaxson Hayes (Texas, C, Freshman)

Image

After grabbing Reddish at No. 5, the Atlanta Hawks could look at Jaxson Hayes to improve their rim protection.

A mobile, bouncy center, he blocks 4.0 shots per 40 minutes, and he'd give Atlanta a needed defensive presence in the middle alongside John Collins.

Hayes also ranks in the 94th percentile as a roll man and the 98th percentile as a finisher around the basket. He'd be another glowing target for Young to set up off ball screens and penetration.

None of the wings are ideal, all have significant question marks. It's going to be a tough call on draft night if we are picking 5-7.

Outside of the top 3, all of these guys aren't Day 1 and if they are, they lack star potential
