I'm sorry have I been watching the same Kent Bazemore who runs around the court like a chicken all day for the past 4 years and is having a better year this year because he's on our squad that features hardly any vets so he's getting numbers through his minutes???? That Kent Bazemore.

Bud won't bat a eyelid! I'm sorry but Baze is being showcased hard. Crunch the numbers all you want..once a headless chicken always a headless chicken.

That's on the court...Baze is awesome off it.

I don't blame him, I blame you for entering the discussion as if he's not just cleverly putting yet another anti-Budz opinion out there.

WHAT???? I fell into another trap??? That's like 4 this week!!!(only 2 online)... :(

It's crazy. Now our guy @jamallllliver and macd are on the "... hmmm, I wonder how Bud would feel if Schlenk does this?"

They're very clever. I wouldn't even call them out if they'd just put their cards on the table and call for us to fire the dude. They're being real Lebrony about it, real passive aggressive.

I just meant that I believe Budenholzer is really close to Baze and his family.

When BudCox made the decision to lavish that huge contract on Bazemore, I have to believe part of the commitment we were making was based on Bazemore th eperson, the locker room presence, the culture hero. The selfless kid who went undrafted and worked his way to a huge payday after toiling in the D League early.

I think CMB loves Bazemore the person even as he has been letdown by Bazemore the player.

With Millsap we were trying to win games, stay in the playoffs.
What we are doing now has a different set of priorities.
Baze'll be gone for the right deal.

Yeah, the off-court positivity from Bazemore is the main reason trading him would be hard. Can't ask for a better guy in the community. Genuine good dude.

And I hope jam and macd realize I'm just messin with them. I don't wanna have to hire security or .. wait, what's this little red dot on my chest? Kinda looks like a laser scope is on my ... wait, wait, wait, n-

The data is not wrong. Let's look at his last 10 games (I will include the Utah game, even though basketball reference did not have it up when I posted my comment).
1/22: +13
1/20: +1
1/17: +1
1/15: -7
1/12: -2
1/10: -10
1/8: 0
1/7: -21
1/5: 0
1/2: +3

So over those last 10 games he is net -22. Over his last 20 he is -12 (which includes games of +17, +13, and +9). He has went back down over these last 10.

He has been better this year than last, but that doesn't make him a great or good basketball player. He is good defensively, and mediocre offensively. TS% and offensive +/- all confirm that.

If we are better with him than without him, then we should be trying to trade him. He won't return a high draft pick, but if we could trade him for expiring and maybe a late first (that is up for debate), I say you pull the trigger. It opens up even more salary (not necessarily for this year but for next) and might give us a late pick (I know you say we have enough, but I'd rather have the pick for a possible move up).
You proved that your initial data was wrong. Thats why you changed up your inital post while cosigning me. That said, defense wise, he's been better than the numbers suggest. Dennis getting killed off the ball seems to harm everyone around him numbers. Baze is not exempt from that

This is a really good plus/minus considering how bad our team is. Especially if you look at the charts from the last two months.

Actually you are correct, the data I found is wrong...but not in the way you have hoped. The 1/20 game against Chicago he was -15. So that means his net +/- over the last 10 games was actually -40. The correct data is:
1/22: +13
1/20: -15
1/17: +1
1/15: +1
1/12: -7
1/10: -2
1/8: -10
1/7: 0
1/5: -21
1/2: 0
source: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bazemke01/gamelog/2018

I had the wrong +/- on certain days (what I get for trying to do split screen and having to scroll back and forth). My initial post data is not wrong. He hasn't been good over his last several games (10 as a sample, being -40 plus/minus and only 3 games being positive and 1 over +1). He does in fact have two games of double-digit negative +/-.

I just don't see what the point is in keeping him. Do we really think his value is much more than a late first? Teams want defense, but his lack of offense and the contract limits who we can ship him to. If we keep him for next year when he is on a 1+1 deal (which he would be an idiot not to accept that 3rd player option year), does he really have the capability of rebounding his value on a team who is rebuilding? He does have more value to a team that is in the hunt, but that doesn't mean we draw a line in the sand and squander any hope we have of getting something out of him. Just like with the vets, I understand wanting to keep them because we feel their value is more. But at the end of the day I would rather some type of asset (young player, a 2nd, ect) for a player who doesn't have a future with the Atlanta Hawks than lose them for nothing.
I disagree. He fits our time table. Hes not an impact player like Marc Gasol. Role players like him always hold value on good and bad teams. You never know. The draft is tough. It's better players can learn from quality vets than try to get thrown in the fire and get stuck like Towns with Minny is doing.

Baze is doing what Bud wants and we are in last place. I don't really know why we are going into to much depth. Baze can be moved the question is, at the right price or just trade for the sake of trading. Trading for the sake of trading tends to no work out for us

Four trades that would remake the Cleveland Cavaliers

with two weeks until the NBA’s trade deadline, we came up with four trades that would remake the Cavaliers’ roster:

3. Isaiah Thomas, Derrick Rose and the Miami Heat’s 2020 second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Dewayne Dedmon

Thomas, Rose and a pick going to Atlanta for some guy casual fans have never heard of? Yes.

Thomas was expected to struggle after two months on the sideline rehabbing his hip. Ideally, a player in that situation could use G-League for a rehab assignment, but that hasn’t caught hold in the NBA yet, so Thomas is trying to get his legs under him in NBA game action.

Needless to say, it’s not going well. Consider this: The Cavaliers’ currrent starting five is the worst NBA lineup among those that have 100 or more minutes together, getting outscored by a staggering 22.8 points per 100 possessions in the 100 minutes it has been on the court.

Rose, meanwhile, has played in just 10 games, and isn’t worth playing more because he doesn’t space the floor or play defense.

Dedmon, meanwhile, is a very useful player. Averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three-point range, Dedmon is the rare big that can both be a defensive presence and a floor spacer. In other words, he’s the dream big to play next to James and he’d give the Cavaliers five players who can space the floor without having any defensive liabilities.
Washington Post

Not much incentive for us to pursue this...unless we could move Isaiah to a third team immediately for a modest price.

D Rose would be waived immediately.

It's a pretty good deal for Cleveland. Not seeing the value for us. Our defense is pretty bad as it is and has improved of late but damn, idk

I large percent of this is based around IT. Would we send him to Erie to get his health back. He's a clear update over Delaney. That Miami pick is pretty wack. It's not worth much. At the end of the day, this deal is IT for Dedmon. We want to bring Dedmon back.

1. The question is simple. How much would IT resign for.

2. Is he willing to go to Erie for a couple of weeks.

3. Will he want to play for Atlanta?

At the end of the day. This can go really good or really bad. If he is solid for us, if he's willing to take a solid deal 6-9 mil. We might consider keeping him long term. He needs to get healthy but we all know he can play within our system as seen in Boston.

I would rather not do this deal to be frank.

Nah. This deal is Dedmon for a future 2nd rounder with Rose/IT serving as contract filler.

Rose won't come here.

IT would likely refuse to come here.

This would be an exchange of expirings as we can't expect any of these guys to be here long term.

(NOTE: I think we could move Isaiah to a third team like Minnesota, NYK, Denver along with another expiring vet (Bellinelli, Ilyasova) and get back an additional asset.)

LOL @ either Rose or IT refusing to come anywhere. IT needs to play in his continued efforts to trick some team into paying him anything. Rose needs to play in order to keep tricking adidas into continuing to honor his contract although he's effectively retired.

Take heart though, jammmollly. I do agree with you in regards to flipping IT immediately to a playoff team, if they did indeed acquire him.

Yep. There is no way IT would be helpful in Atlanta. I can see the Suns or Magic being interested. We are rebuilding, he gonna want to start and get the big contract offer.

Not sure why Isaiah is treated like a star for having 2 good years in Boston having a bunch of guys play D for him and pass him the ball on every possession. Dedmon for a second rounder in 2020 AND having to pay IT/Rose no small amount of money for the rest of the year/buyout? We can do better than that.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
