Thoughts?

At the trade deadline the Hawks discussed Collins+ for Simmons. Philly tried including Harris - Hawks passed then so I don't see them wanting Harris without Simmons.

Could that possibly have had to do with adding $70 mil in payroll for 2+ years? Ben and Tobi weren’t a great fit together anyway, both are best utilized at PF.
Or do you think the Hawks purely don’t like Tobi?

Also, just as an outsider…what is the deal with Atlanta seemingly wanting to get trade Collins? He seems like a pretty good fit. Is he a bad teammate or something? Or just hasn’t lived up to expectations?

Tobias makes too much money for 2 many years.
On the Collins thing - I understand wanting to UPGRADE the position so some of the rumors didn't/don't make sense. And no not a bad teammate.

First, I would not make any trade for Simmons if we don't get also a C that can shoot 3s before that.
If we trade for Turner and have Okongwu/Turner sharing the C spot (with Turner playing also PF), it's OK to trade for Simmons, but if we keep Capela, or even trade for Ayton, it's no for me.
We need to be able to play Simmons with 4 other guys shooting 3s on the floor

Now, let's say we can swap Capela and Turner, I initially wanted mainly Collins+Huerter for Simmons (or Capela+Huerter if IND would prefer Collins and BKN would prefer Capela).

I wanted to keep Trae, Bogi, Hunter and Okongwu, and see if it was possible to trade for Turner and Simmons with Capela/Collins/Huerter, or Gallo instead of one of these guys if they wanted cap relief, but we used Gallo on Murray. Good thing, as we still had enough to match salaries for Simmons and Turner.
But they decided to trade Huerter, and even using the pick we got from his trade is not helping in this case because we can't match salaries.
That's why I don't like this Huerter trade at this moment. It just leaves the team with less trade possibilities than before.

Replace Capela by Turner, and no more problem.
Still, I don't like loosing both Collins and Bogi for one player only.

No to Harris, big contract for a limited impact.
Even if we had cap room to absorb part of his contract, I wouldn't trade Bogi alone for him. So Collins and Bogi, no for sure.

Regarding Collins, it's complex. It was seen as him wanting more shots, but from what he said in an article, it's more being used correctly in the offense.
It's easy to imagine it's a number of shots being the problem for him because he had all the balls with Trae the year before Capela came in.
ATL might want/be OK to trade him to avoid more drama on that point, but I tend to believe Collins when he said that it's not the number of shots he gets, but how he gets the ball.

The thing that matches perfectly what he said is:
- he's not taking any 3pts shot : they mainly loose games
- he takes 4 or more 3pts shots : they mainly loose games
- he takes 1 to 3 3pts shots : they mainly win games

I'd do it. Many talk about spacing, but essentially having 3 guys that can attack the rim, and one of those guys being pretty much a big wing/point forward with elite level defense is kinda hard to defend with or without spacing. The floor can still be spread, but in a different kind of way.

Simmons is the only obstacle with his unwillingness to shoot a pull up jumper, but there's not too many guys that could actually stop him from getting to the rim anyway. Teams can try to pack the paint, but Murray's capable of knocking down shots, and Trae definitely will. If Hunter is still here, then we got him available for open 3's. Every position doesn't need to be a 40% 3 point shooter.

They said that Ayton cannot be traded to the Nets because the Nets are already hard capped. Ayton will have to go to a 3rd team.

Nets can't get Ayton easily

The salary matching issues due to Base Year Compensation rule on Ayton would require the Nets to take on $8-10 million more dollars than are going out, and they are already WAY over the tax apron
acquiring Ayton in a sign-and-trade triggers the ‘hard cap’ which would require the Nets to immediately shed more than $20 million in salaries to get back under the tax apron and stay there

But they can get him....I don't know how they would shed that money

Yes, not needed, as the more shooters you can put at the same time on the floor, the more their shooting % will increase.
I bet Murray will shoot better next Trae than he was with SAS.

Now, I will stay on my idea that if we get Simmons, this team would be better by also trading Capela for Turner
It would be faster on defense, Turner is the best guys in the league at making block without fouling, and on offense, having the ability by sequences to put Okongwu on the bench and playing Turner at C would make Simmons the only one on the floor not shooting 3s

And even when Hunter is on the bench, if you play Trae, Murray, Simmons, Turner and Okongwu at the same time, good luck to the other team to score easy baskets!

If BKN are really searching to trade Durant, and have problem to add a guy who got a Max rookie extension because they have Simmons on the roster, we should absolutely go after him and jump into this multi-teams Durant trade

Numbers wise it works to get Simmons for Capela and Bogi as well.

We could play OO at Center and go "small" with Ben at 5 at times.

3 elite passing players is crazy...Ben, DJ, Trae

But I'm not sure why Brooklyn would do that unless they're trying to get a rookie max guy on their team...like Wiggins, Ayton, Booker, Siakam etc....so yeah it makes sense with any of these guys EXCEPT for Ayton

In that scenario I'm down to get Turner for Capela but I don't see Indiana wanting Cap. He would make no sense there.

Let's not forget Turner will be unrestricted as well. Maybe they just want a pick and expiring (which we can give Kings pick but we're out of expiring)

Before the Murray trade, I was at first thinking offering them Gallo (5M) or Capela or Collins.
Now, it's dead for Gallo, but one of the last reports regarding Collins said that WAS, BKN and IND were interested by Collins.

But if we trade Collins for Turner, we would have to trade Capela because we won't play with Capela/Turner/Okongwu, so Capela should be in the trade for Simmons in this case (unless we try Capela/Turner/Okongwu, it would be each playing 32 minutes to cover the C/PF spots, but 16 minutes with Capela+Okongwu at the same time and none of them shooting 3s).

I thought BKN might be interested by Capela+Huerter, but now Huerter is gone, meaning it would be Capela+Bogi or Capela+Hunter, which I don't like very much

Yeah I want to keep Hunter. We'll need him for sure.

Only trade OO if we have a better permanent solution at C

I'm also interested in Wiggins if Warriors are after KD. I guess similar package Wiggins for Collins Bogi

Wiggins for Collins and Bogi actually saves us money too.

Collins and Bogi to Brooklyn

Wiseman, Moody, Kuminga to Brooklyn

KD to Warriors

That's actually quite a haul for Brooklyn

Can Simmons be traded to the Hawks due to both he and Trae being max rookie players?

Yes because Trae signed it here. So Simmons would be the only one we traded for (it's more than one you traded for that is not allowed)

I think only the GSW can make the best offer to the Nets for KD, but i think Hawks can beat out the Heat and Suns in a trade package.

John Collins
Bogdanovic
Hunter
Okongwu
Jalen Johnson
AJ Griffin
Justin Holiday

Any 3 players on the list above plus the Kings' pick could easily beat an Ayton/Bridges package or Herro/Robinson package.

I think we value our players and core more than other teams do. I don't think Collins and Bogi for example is a great combo trade wise...Bogi hurt A LOT... Look what happened to Brogdon. Collins is valuable but he's not going to be top 20 player.

Griffin and JJ probably couldn't fetch a first round pick right now

Collins statistically is the same as Ayton especially when you factor in his 3pt shooting. Ayton has more value because he is a center but Collins has a better contract (while Ayton wants max), so overall value is about the same.

It's interesting because I think that most of the time, we do the opposite, and more than the other teams.
I'm not talking about most media, because they are clearly undervaluing our players, but for us, how many trade proposal were made here with our players and a lot of picks, looking like each one was not worth a 1st round pick itself?

Bogi hurts? I admit that it's the one that I never undervalue, but how can he hurts in trade talk?
His contract is good, every other teams know it, and the guy was simply the 2nd best Net rating of ATL in regular season behind Okongwu, and 3rd behind Wright and Okongwu in the playoffs
He saved ATL the previous season by taking the PG duties when Trae was injured... and you think he hurts?
Yes, he had some bad night, but most of the time, the team was clearly at its best when he was on the floor, not when he's on the bench. Didn't you see this? :o
I'm waiting for some explanation...

I believe "Bogi hurt A LOT" means he is injured often, not Bogi hurts in trade talks.

This is fantasy land. Bridges is probably considered at least a top 40 player. He was getting votes for DPOY. Hunter literally had one good game and played average defense all season at best. I don't think any team would value Hunter over Bridges... In fact we would trade them straight up in one second if we could.

I think on the court Ayton and Collins have similar value but given his age, size and continuous improvement Ayton has WAY more upside. He could be an elite 2 way center in 1-2 years....same cannot be said for JC
