If we're throwing away draft picks to sign Greg Monroe or Gordon Hayward....I will officially be off the D Ferry bandwagon.

I won't. I would give up Bebe any day of the week for Monroe or Hayward.

Hayward isn't happening though Utah has already said they will match any offer he gets

Same here. I will happily lose lou and bebe for the addition of a starter.

@WojYahooNBA: One strong candidate for that $15M-plus of fresh salary cap space in Atlanta, league sources tell Yahoo: Free agent forward Luol Deng.

You guys are doing a great job going back straight up to the mediocre route. Gave up a young C with potential to give a 29 y/o Luol Deng a 15m/year contract. It sounds like a bad contract in 2 years.

It's not so much about Bebe. It's the value of the assets in the first place. Draft picks are like gold. Literally giving them away tells me that Ferry really didn't have some grand plan he was working. He really just is making it up as he goes along.

It's a terrifying feeling when you realize your leader has no real, tangible plan for the future.

I don't believe any of the "rumors" that get reported.

Ferry doesn't overpay. I don't see him starting now.

I'll tale Deng, just not at 15 million .

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11128345/nba-teams-gear-runs-lebron-james-carmelo-anthony

"sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks are among the teams mulling potential trades designed to clear enough cap space to be able to recruit the two stars and close friends."

"In concert with media and internet speculation came word from many teams that suddenly have interest in throwing their names in the hat for consideration; teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers are now suddenly gearing up to join the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami in making their pitches to LeBron."

I am absolutely refusing to give in to the belief that we have a very real shot of acquiring lebron or Melo so that way I won't be tremendously upset when we fail to do so.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/24/lebron-james-seven-most-likely-landing-spots-which-starts-with-miami/

"Atlanta Hawks. LeBron is not going to go to these teams in these markets, but they would be fascinating. I love the Atlanta idea, they could have in the ballpark of $17 million if they trade Lou Williams and that would give the Hawks a starting five of Jeff Teague (better than any Miami point guard), Kyle Korver to space the floor, LeBron at the three, Paul Millsap at the four and Al Horford at the five. That’s a good team. "

This isn't a rumor, or report, but i saw this trade proposal on another message board.......

Horford for Jarrett Jack, Anthony Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, and Andrew Wiggins

Zeller
Horford
Carmelo
Lebron
Irving

Hawks take on alot of bad contract but also get Andrew Wiggins in the mix

Cavs get Horford and with all the bad contract gone, the Cavs can offer two max contracts to Lebron and Carmelo and still stay under $63 million while still keeping Kyrie Irving.

Unfortunately, we're going to have to cut some more salary to make a run at Lebron or Melo. Honestly think we may have to deal a starter. Something along the lines of Millsap for a $3M/yr guy could make a lot of sense. Lebron and Horford could move from 3/4 to 4/5 as we switch out lineups and hopefully the $3M/year guy could be a decent backup type.

This would be a hard deal to pass on for me - especially if BRK would still be down with a Thornton for Jack swap. I'd force Lebron to tell us "no" before I'd consider it, but I admit that the chance to take on Wiggins would be too intriguing for me to pass up, and I would see Waiters as a positive as well. Couldn't care less about Bennett and Thompson although maybe we could move them elsewhere for value.

I really love getting Bebe, but i'm starting to get jealous of the flexibility that the Hawks have right now. If the Hawks don't get Carmelo or LeBron, this could be a more exciting Plan B than just signing Deng and keeping Horford.

What if the moves aren't to get space to sign a Free Agent? What if we're preparing to take on a player currently under contract?

Could we be trading for Klay Thompson, Kevin Love or James Harden?

Ya, that is why i posted the Wiggins thing. Ferry might be telling everybody to look right, when actually something big is happening on the left.

it think he did it with Kyle Anderson, showing Kyle Anderson with his right hand, but then taking Payne instead.

As a Wolves fan I think Love to Atlanta makes a lot of sense, but the question always is would he go there, and what would the team risk for Love without an extension.

It's gotta be for someone under contract.

Throwing away a 1st round draft pick to get rejected by Lebron or to pursue Greg Monroe would be idiotic. Long shots at best. But trading for James Harden so HOU gets under the salary cap so THEY can get rejected by Lebron....that actually makes more sense.

We're trading for a player under contract so that another team can pursue a top Free Agent.

Candidates:

Joakim Noah
James Harden
Klay Thompson
Blake Griffin

All of their teams have expressed interest in pursuing LBJ (or Carmelo).

Harden or Noah make the most sense.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking...

It'd take Horford to even get you guys on the line, right?

The problem is that, with the names you have up there, those teams can just wait until the FA agrees then if they have to move a player, they will. I'd imagine that if MIA or NYK were approached about an SNT with any of those names on the list, then I could MIA or NYK would be receptive - especially if all the other team has to do is dump the one player to get far enough under the cap to sign the FA.

Personally, I think we should just take this at face value here. We are making a deal the day before FA begins for to open up ~$6M in cap room. Sure, we can't acquire Salmons later, but we could acquire another non-guaranteed contract, so the timing means something. We are looking to make a big splash in FA. I'm just interested in seeing who Ferry will decide is the guy that he'll attach his entire tenure with the Atlanta Hawks to.

I would love get Horford, but I doubt the Hawks would want to part with one of the key pieces in keeping Kevin Love. I think Milsap, Korver, Payne, Schroder, and a first would probably be a competitive offer based on what we have been hearing.

Melo must be the target and I support it.
Ferry did what he had to if we want to pursue actual talent and I love it.

Honest ?: if the target is actually Luol Deng, would you be as supportive?
