Make a prediction!

Ill go with 22. Some other tanking teams are gonna out do us a couple times near the end of the year.

- If you waffle by providing a range of wins (e.g., "Anywhere from 15-30 wins), I will used the average and round up (e.g, 22.5 = 23 wins).

- If you equivocate with a lot of jibber jabber but don't provide a definitive number or range, you will not be included.

Good luck to all!

I will periodically tabulate the predictions throughout the pre-season.

I would be hard pressed to see us barely get over 15 this year. Rookie head coach, and a lot of unknown in what will come from our young core. If Prince & Collins both hit strides, we might be a 25 win team. If they're not doing so, then I say 17 at best. Trae will be exciting, but ultimately will shoot us in and out of games. That's fine because he will take his lumps and get better. With that said, Len could get us around 25 wins if he shows signs of the ceiling he has.

A lot of #'s, but the spectrum is 17-25. At best, we won't eclipse 25 and that's if everything goes right. I see us more closer to 17 though, so pencil me in at 18 since 17 is an unusual #.

- New and inexperienced head coach whose focus is on development
- Rebuilding/Tank mode activated
- Bunch of new faces
- Bunch of young players
- Rookie PG who is prone to streaks
- Top scorer gone
- EC picture: 7 solid playoff teams and at least 4 previous lottery teams fighting for a bottom playoff spot

23 wins, last in the EC, 2nd worst overall

Note that I've since changed my pick to 21 wins. This is until they show me something in preseason.

32 wins. Impossible to predict injuries and trades. But this is a realistic number if the team is healthy.

Wow! If that happens then we made some really great draft picks.

ATLANTA HAWKS FIRSTROUND DRAFT PICKS: Note. Not all were rafted by the Hawks.

Three were #5 picks - - - Trae Young ------2018 Alex Len - - - 2013 Vince Carter ----- 1998

One @ #12 ------Taurean Prince

Three were # 19picks - - - Justin Anderson ----2015 John Collins----2017 Kevin Huerer----2018

one @21-----------DeAndre` Brembry-----2016

one @30---------Omari Spellman ---2018

Quiet a collection of first round draft picks wearing the Atlanta uniform this upcoming season. Some fans believe we will not be any good. I don't believe the Hawks will be great. .500 ball isn't great but for a first year coach and some youngsters, they won't be as bad as dome "talking heads" on TV think. At least, this is my thinking!!

Not sure where to put this... :)

From CBS Sports:

"The new era of Hawks basketball with Trae Young will start on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they head north to New York City to take on the Knicks" and Kevin Knox.

That same night:

"Luka Doncic's debut with the Mavericks will come on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when his club takes on the Suns and No. 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton."

Let the comparisons (which are bound to come, and will be unfair to Trae in the beginning because of Doncic's greater experience level) begin!

The following games should also be highlights that first week:

"The NBA announced LeBron James will make his highly-anticipated Lakers debut on Thursday, Oct. 18 at Portland."

"For the second straight season, the Celtics will play in the very first game. This time around, they'll take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, Oct. 16 in a rematch of last season's second-round playoff matchup."

"A few days later, on Friday, Oct. 19 we'll see what could be a preview of the Eastern Conference finals, as the Celtics travel to Toronto to take on Kawhi Leonard and the new-look Raptors"

Edit - And Dennis Schroder is playing opening night (Oct. 16) against the Warriors.

"Lloyd Pierce and company will open a newly renovated Philips Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks"

First three weeks (apart from a few games) are not too bad in terms of match ups.

Then after around Nov 9, the next month is pretty bad.

Then it gets back to a more normal mix for Hawks.

Strength of schedule for NBA 2018-2019 season

Hawks - 9th
Cleveland - 12th [top ten protected FRP]
Dallas - 3rd [top five protected FRP]

This is all pretty good news imo

Yeah, the Hawks have the 9th toughest strength of schedule, and the toughest in the Eastern Conference. But the first 10 games look like the best stretch.

OK, I just bet $300 on the Hawks to win the Southeast Division at odds of +15000 (bet $100 to win $15,000). I also bet $300 on the over of 23.5 to hedge.

The division is a long shot to be sure, but if the competition is MIA, WAS, ORL, and CHA -- I think a small bet is worth it! None of these teams are locks to win more than 40 games.

That's cool. Miami and Wiz are obviously the biggest issues. One of them is going have to do well i think but the Wiz are guaranteed to underperform and are one John Wall injury away from wanting to tank probably. I think that bet is worth a shot.

Seems like you'd bet the under to really hedge!

Hmm. Last season we had 9 teams with fewer than 30 wins. This guy has 4 for this season and 2 of those are at 29. I guess everyone is improving?
