For the moment Pierce is a bargain basement, cheap newbie coach brought in to develop the beginning of a major rebuild. We'll see.

If he's a motivator and hard on these guys, particularly on the defensive end, then I'm good with it. He's young enough to hopefully influence their off court behavior too.

He's going to get his chance. He's going to have to lead a very young team and although I'm all on with what we got, wouldn't have minded an experienced coach that wouldn't be learning on the fly at the same time as his young players.

Pierce seems like a good guy and he's basketball, but he has a lot to learn as an NBA coach.

This.

This was the lesson I learned from the Lon Kruger era. Having a team where the players and coach are both learning the NBA on the fly -- delays the learning curve for both.

Pierce at least has experience at this level as a long time assistant.

But a retread with modest success might have made a decent transitional option...

We should be able to get a nice brotherhood thing going. Pierce seems to fit the role

Schlenky has links to Jeremy Lin in a previous life?

yeah, Chelsea Lane, who is apparently a mini-celebrity in Oakland was also hired on. Not really convinced this means GSW is the blueprint, but Schlenk has strong connections in GS and is using those connections to get solid people on the Hawks that may not have come otherwise.

Yeah...we've touched on it.

Spoiler:
Warriors suffer painful free-agent loss: Trainer Chelsea Lane leaving

Image

The Warriors probably suffered their most painful free-agency loss Tuesday with the departure of head performance therapist Chelsea Lane.

The Warriors confirmed Lane, who has been lauded for her work by stars such as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, is leaving to run the Atlanta Hawks’ training staff.

First reported by The Athletic, Lane’s departure after two seasons overseeing the Warriors training program means Golden State will have their fifth trainer since the 2010-11 season.

Lane, the only woman running an NBA training staff, was hired away from the Warriors by Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk, who was a Warriors assistant GM when Lane joined the team in 2015.

One of the biggest impacts of Lane leaving could be on newest Warriors star DeMarcus Cousins, where her expertise was expected to play a big role in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.

Curry said Lane was “amazingly instrumental” in getting him back onto the court this season.

Hawks make another hire from Warriors

The Hawks have – again – taken a key piece from the Warriors.

Chelsea Lane is taking a position of Executive Director of Athletic Performance and Sports Medicine with the Hawks, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Lane is the only women to oversee an NBA team’s training staff.

Lane has been noted with her work with Warriors’ star Steph Curry, who has dealt with ankle and knee injuries in his career.

TS has rapidly positioned himself as an ass-kissing yes sir GM. He will find a place in the NBA (already has) but he will never be the GM brought in to lead a team to greatness. He just isn't capable. Yes sir men have their obvious limitations

Not quite sure what it is but I can’t conceptualize a “yes man” being able to fill out powerful positions throughout an entire organization with their own former colleagues and players.

Agreed. The overreaction to the Lin move is wild. Trading for a quality backup on an expiring contract? What an awful move, must be in the owners pocket

Simple; beginning of rebuild on a severely talent depleted team and the money should have gone towards draft assets or young FA. Bad GMing. Nothing against Lin

Who could we have signed though? Nobody wanted to take our money when we were good, why would the want to come here when we’re clearly tanking?

Trae Young is growing on me. Shooting from Young and Huerter will be appreciated. Collins showing range in the summer league too.

Sounds like DS has little to no value in the league currently. He is on the same level as Plumlee asset wise. Not sure why Lin was even worth taking on that contract when we got a minimal draft pick that is too far down the road to be meaningful.
A new arena is going to be a hard sell this year knowing that tanking will be pushed to the extreme this year. There will not be any differences of opinion this season from management.

Lin is expiring. I'm not sure why everyone is so up in arms.

Exactly!!!! It's a massively inconsequential deal.

We were beneath the salary floor and needed a vet PG.

We picked up a minor future asset in the process as well as a good locker room leader who can mentor Trae for a year or two.

I expect Nash to be present at training camp helping to mentor our rookie PG; and having Lin around all season (hopefully) only provides additional guidance for the most high profile Hawk player in decades.

As Young takes the reigns as the Hawks’ point guard of the future, Dennis Schroder’s future will come into question more and more as the offseason continues.

There has been pressure for the Hawks’ management to ensure value arrives in a Schroder trade, and the franchise simply won’t trade below his value. Atlanta lost dependable shooter Marco Belinelli via contract buyout during the season without receiving a return before the trade deadline. Center Dewayne Dedmon has also emerged as a veteran player who could attract interested suitors.

I like that. No Mozgov or Noah type trades to dump Dennis.
