I think both Ayton and Bagley will exceed KAT as far as impacting wins and losses. KAT has some serious issues with moving his feet and just being consistent from game to game. He is a star don’t get me wrong, but one that doesn’t fit our timeline as far as our youth movement. Again he’s probably going to figure it out sometime, but personally I’m not a huge fan of his overall game.

I just think we need a brand new face for the Hawks. One that we draft, groom and keep forever until his jersey is hanging in the rafters.

#Bagley
#Trae
#Porter jr.

Ps Doncic has slipped on my list. I’d still love him but I do like Trae and Porter a bit more now. Who knew, I dropped my own boy in favor of Macdiddy’s and kg’s. They are the brains behind the operation. I just fix the lights every now n then.

KAT's issue is the same issues that Ayton and Bagley demonstrated in college, being **** defenders. Difference is that KAT is a proven offensive player and shooter at the NBA level, the two things people hope Ayton and Bagley can become. I'm not jumping on the train either where a 23 year old is a millennia older than a 19 year old, I think having a core aged 4 years between each other is perfectly fine.

I agree with all of this. But don’t you just want a brand new toy? As a Hawks fan, the last time we had a top 3 pick was 11 years ago in Alice. I just want that rookie that other teams have gotten that we have yet to find. I know the unknown is scary but I really want to roll to dice.

This isn’t a trade I just didn’t know where to place it. A throwback for all us Braves fans! Oldie but goodie!

I didn’t realize this at the time, but because Pittsburgh backed out of an agreed upon deal for Barry Bonds, this failed trade was the only reason we were able to grab Maddox. The Braves were very loaded at the time.

If we still had Bud, I'd trade for KAT in a heart beat.
With the new coach and rebuild, trading for KAT now would be rushing the rebuild. He's due for an extension this summer, would he sign it? We'd have him for 1 year before he becomes a RFA, we can't offer him the supermax since we wont be his original team so what would be his incentive to stick around. This would be a short sighted move. He's been on the rebuilding Minny, would he want to start over another?
We've seen how he looks in Minny, they couldn't make the playoffs until Butler joined that team. And they barely made it after Butler got injured.
We spent all year suffering through all the losses to start over, so......start over by making our own lottery selection.

Realistic Trade Every Team with a Top-5 Pick Should Consider

Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta Hawks Get: Ian Mahinmi, Shelvin Mack, Washington's No. 15 pick in 2018

Washington Wizards Get: Jonathon Simmons, Malcolm Delaney

Orlando Magic Get: Dennis Schroder

A lot could change in the next month as narratives form and opinions shift about prospects, but the No. 3 spot doesn't appear to be ideal. Despite what sources have told ESPN.com's Jonathon Givony, Doncic and Ayton likely will be gone, and no one knows how much more valuable the No. 3 pick is than, say, the 10th.

So, let's leave Atlanta's pick alone for now and seek out more draft assets by giving it Washington's No. 15 selection in exchange for taking on Ian Mahinmi's onerous deal. Washington should be happy to surrender its pick in an effort to duck the tax, and the Hawks have cap space to absorb rotten deals for the right price.

At the same time, we can also help the Hawks ditch Schroder, who seems open to a separation. Orlando's point guard situation may be the worst in the league, and that makes it a fine taker for Schroder's deal, which'll pay him $15.5 million per season through 2020-21.

Washington saves money, Orlando gives up filler for a shot at its point guard of the future and the Hawks eat bad money while adding a fourth first-rounder for their rebuild.

I would do the above trade. Grab that #15 and Ian Mahinmi. Loving me some Ian!

Would you...

Hawks get: Jonathan Isaac+ Terrence Ross (flip later) + 6th pick(2018) + 2019 1st round pick (top 2 protected).

Magic get: Dennis Schröder + 3rd pick

Probably not. The difference between 3 and 6 is pretty significant IMO, Jonathan Isaac is meh, Ross probably doesn't fetch anything more than a high second, and if they did this trade it means they're trying to make playoffs and will overpay FAs so the 2019 1st might be late lottery.

Now a simple Schroder for Isaac, Ross, and the 2019? All day every day.

Tempting, but I'd pass.

Random: who the hell do I have to speak to for us to get some new uniforms? I’m trying to picture these potential rooks and trades in a Hawks jersey and it’s so hard because I hate the jerseys so much.

Which ones? I like the standard white home and grey road. I don't like the red alternates or the nike city. The city are ok once in a while but it seems like we started wearing them all the time.

The City jerseys were a breath of fresh air to me. I hate everything else. I’m just not a fan of the volt green. That’s the only thing I would change about them, I would even take that stripe being the old school McDonald’s yellow color. Speaking of old school, when Nike took over there were some Hawks some concepts that just modernized our old colorways and schemes and it looked fantastic.

Anyone thrilled about the Michael Beasley rumor that we would pursue him in FA? Has a home here, and had a good year in NYK.

Potential Candidates for the Trail Blazers’ Trade Exception

Portland has a big piece they can use to acquire a new player, but it’s expiring soon

The Portland Trail Blazers are capped out for the next few years, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of options to acquire a player. The Trail Blazers have a $13.0 million Traded Player Exception generated in the Allen Crabbe trade last summer.

The Crabbe TPE expires on July 25, so it will be use-it-or-lose-it time for Portland over the next two months.

Any player acquired via trade would likely replace impending Free Agent Jusuf Nurkic and with that in mind, a few targets emerge:

Dewayne Dedmon, Atlanta Hawks:

Dedmon quietly put together a very impressive 2017-18 season and found success in Atlanta on both sides of the ball—he had the best offensive season of his career, spurred by his newfound three-point shooting, and was a key contributor to a Hawks defense that got 3.0 points per 100 possessions better when he was on the floor and defended at roughly a league-average level when he was out there (a very strong performance for Atlanta, which finished 26th in team defense last season).

Dedmon has a $7.2 million player option ($900k of which is tied up in bonuses) for the 2018-19 season and public opinion is split as to whether or not he’ll pick that up. His decision is due June 29, so the Trail Blazers will know whether or not he’s available by the time free agency opens. If he does, bringing him in on a much cheaper, but also much shorter, contract than Nurkic would require would be a cheap way for Portland to replace their incumbent big man without losing too much value in the process. Nurkic is a better pure defensive center but lacks the outside shot and defensive versatility Dedmon possesses. If Dedmon opts out, then a normal signing won’t be possible—he wouldn’t opt out of $7.2 million to take $5.3 million unless something goes horribly wrong during his free agency—but a sign-and-trade between Atlanta and Portland would make sense. Dedmon could lock in more total money, Portland could grab a big man who matches their timeline, and Atlanta wouldn’t have as much leverage to squeeze assets out of the Trail Blazers.
