Not interested if it's 19.

I think it truly depends on what salary we are taking back if it is 19. Moving up 4 spots is pretty big.
Expirings:
Gortat (13.5) Morris (8.5), Smith(5), Meeks (3.5).
Mahinmi is 2yrs/$32 mil

If it is Gortat or Mahinmi, I wouldn't do 19.

Outside of that I would consider it.

They can have #30 this year or a future protected pick...

Gortat, I'd give them #34. For Mahinmi send them our Portland 2020 2nd.

Expiring, so it's between Gortat 13.5M, Morris 8.6M, Smith 5.5M, Meeks 3.5M and Satoransky 3.1M
I find it hard to absorb 13.5M to only go from 19 to 15

If it's the price, I don't know what would be the price to move up to 12 or 11, or higher.
And would it be better to take two contracts like Gortat and Morris to trade 30 for 15, or only one contract and trade 19 for 15 ?

Follow along with me folks...Hawks trade #3 to CHI for #7, #22 and Kris Dunn.

Hawks trade #22 to WAS for #15 and expiring Gortat.

Hawks draft at #7, #15, #19, #30...with three selections in the top-20 of a loaded draft.

We still have a shot at Trae Young but also get potential starters at 15 and 19.

Watch Trae Young awkwardly read the negative parts of his NBA draft profile

Trae Young, according to some scouts, lacks:

-Vertical explosiveness
-Defense
-Shot selection
-Physical tools

During a visit to The Dan Patrick Show, Young had the awkward experience of reading the negatives on his draft profile ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft, which he will likely be able to have a good time re-reading in a few years when he has a successful NBA career.

Geez. I mean these guys are 19 years old. Do we really need to force them to answer all the criticisms of their developing game? I mean what's he supposed to do, apologize for being small?

You mean the 5x All Star?
The All-NBA, All Defensive team selection.

The guy who helped break our 8 year playoff absence?

The 2nd best drafted Hawk Player in the last 30 years?

Why would you be against all that considering the rest of our shameful draft history?

How in the world is Boston our #1 rival in basketball?

I'd think we'd more wary of drafting another Josh Childress or Shelden Williams or Cal Bowdler or Dermarr Johnson.

We've had one successful lotto pick in the last 30 years...but that's the one you want to avoid repeating?

Well I certainly don’t want to repeat the Shelden or Marv picks that’s for sure. But doesn’t every person/team want to progress in life...if we pick Wendell Carter it’s like we are telling all hawks fans:

Get ready to be in the playoffs for another 10 straight years (and this is if Wendell even becomes Alice) and lose every year and never win a ring.

You gotta aim higher jamaal. You have to.

The one thing everyone in the league knows is the Hawks need a star in the worst kind of way. Obviously everyone needs a star but the Hawks are a franchise that should be a big market team but sits here with basically one star player in the last 30 years and almost zero playoff success. It's hard to find a franchise with less star power since 1994.

Exactly. Stars beget other stars, that's not Al.

I've always thought the flaw in selecting Horford is that he was the last lottery pick and most talented player drafted.

AL is a cornerstone player...but not a franchise player. We all agree there. But if he'd been followed by another lottery selection or two...that iteration would have been more likely to pan out.

NOTE: It was Iso-Joe Johnson and Josh Smith who led us to mediocrity. Horford was just a complementary piece for his first few years. And even his last season here...was playing second babana to Paul Millsap. :banghead:

Man, we vastly overvalued 2nd and 3rd tier stars in this place.

That's interesting since AL's signing helped pave the way for Hayward's signing which has suddenly made Boston an attractive destination for stars again.
