Shaquille O'Neal discusses retirement, NBA, future

From when you were as a rookie to retirement this June, what is the state of the NBA?

Business-wise, it’s different. When I was in high school, every team had a star and a Hall of Famer. You don’t have that now. Let’s be real: Orlando, Boston, L.A., Miami — that’s it. Maybe Memphis, the Spurs, maybe Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks. Only nine or 10 teams have a star. In my opinion, it’s kind of gone down. You’ve still got some young guys that are very exciting. They understand and grasp the power that they have.

Jameer Nelson Not Worried About Dwight Howard Leaving Orlando

Dwight Howard has made it clear that he’ll likely bolt from Orlando when his free agency hits next summer, and even though his comments continue to cause panic and controversy in the city, his teammate and friend Jameer Nelson wants everyone to chill out. From the Sentinel: “One of the people closest to Howard in Orlando, Magic co-captain Jameer Nelson, doesn’t believe the controversial comments mean Howard is any more likely to leave when he becomes a free agent in 2012. ‘I think it was blown out of proportion,’ Nelson said at a charity event for Gametyme Foundation. ‘I mean, whatever the guy says right now people are going toe it and run with it.’ Nelson, one of Howard’s best friends, says he has no idea what Howard will do next summer. But he isn’t concerned about the magazine interview. ‘People ask me every day what he’s going to do,’ Nelson said. ‘I don’t know what he’s going to do. I don’t know what I’m going to do tomorrow. One thing I know is the guy is preparing to be the best player he can be this season, and that’s all I can say. I don’t know what his decision is going to be. Whatever he’s going to do, he’s like my little big brother. He’ll definitely have support from me. But obviously, he’s definitely wanted here in Orlando.’”

I think Dwight would love to stay in Orlando, but I can see him leaving, and I hope he does. We have enough power in our division already with Miami and I expect Washington to eventually emerge as one of the best in the East.

ESPN's Ric Bucher reported news from a source on Sportscenter Wednesday night, saying that David Stern is prepared to improve the owners' offer, but that he will cancel the season if the players do not accept.

Metta World Peace Challenges Michael Jordan To End Lockout

Post#224 » by HMFFL » Sat Nov 26, 2011 1:48 am

Metta World Peace Challenges Michael Jordan To End Lockout

Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, has challenged Michael Jordan to a game of one-on-one with the result of the NBA lockout at stake, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“Come on Jordan!! Bring it. One on one. I win lockout over. I’ll beat u with my eyes closed and a in and out burger in my right hand!!” World Peace tweeted to Jordan.

World Peace is one of several players who believe Jordan has turned his back on the players with his hard-line stance on lockout negotiations. The former Bulls’ star was believed to have led a faction of owners who did not want to offer the players a 50-50 split in basketball related income.

The six-time NBA champion and current Charlotte Bobcats owner did not respond to the tweet.

Samuel Dalembert likes Miami and would sign for less money

Post#228 » by HMFFL » Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:27 pm

Samuel Dalembert says signing with the Heat "would be fantastic", willing to take less money

"That would be fantastic," Dalembert said in an interview Sunday night from Haiti with FOX Sports Florida about the possibility of joining Miami, which is where more than 50 of his relatives live and is about one hour south of his Boca Raton, Fla., home.

As for the volunteering part, it likely would require a big pay cut for Dalembert to join the Heat, which will be over the salary cap. Dalembert, who made $13.43 million last season for Sacramento, might have to sign for the $5 million mid-level exception.

Dalembert wouldn't say specifically he would agree to that. But he did say "what is best for you might not be for the most money." And he definitely likes the Heat.

Miami with more depth at the 5? Not good.

Hoopshype: Potential amnesty options for NBA teams

Atlanta – Zaza Pachulia, 2 years, $10 million. According to HoopHype, the Hawks have $65 million committed to nine players this season. Pachulia averaged just 17.7 minutes in the postseason and 15.7 in the regular season.

I like the wording "averaged just 17.7 minutes" compared to 15.7 regular season minutes. Pachulia is a 7'footer who makes his money in the postseason.

Hawks arent postseason contenders so writer is esssentialy saying "Come on Hawks Lets Get this rebuild started".

Pay Pachulia to go away, really?

Tyson Chandler : 'I expect to be on a new team..'

Post#233 » by Ice32 » Thu Dec 1, 2011 2:36 am

Looks like Chandler has already made his mind up. He's disappointed that contract negotiations were not discussed after the Finals.

"I really think I'm going to be on a new team come training camp," Chandler told ESPN.com in a telephone interview Wednesday night. "I'm really taking a hard look at all of my options, trying to see what best suits me."

"I would like this to be settled by early next week," Chandler said. "I want to be in camp with my new teammates as soon as possible."

A lot of this comes down to where is D12 going, and Chandler obviously wants to get the most money he can get. You don't say these types of comments if you had intentions of staying with Dallas. His Agent has most likely sourced him a max deal elsewhere, and Chandler wants it.

An excited Andrew Bogut is confident his enforced layoff from basketball has not been time wasted as he prepares to return to a rescheduled NBA.

The Milwaukee Bucks and Australian centre is set for a Christmas Day start to the new season - delayed and now shortened because of a standoff between the league's owners and the players' union. Bogut is adamant he is in good enough shape to tackle a 66-game regular season - 16 shorter than normal - which will be shoehorned into a tighter timeframe.

"I'm about 85 per cent (fit)," Bogut told AAP.

"I don't want to be at 100 right now because if I'm peaking right now, I'm going to get through training camp and I'm going to be burned out. "I'm pretty comfortable with where I'm at.
"I've been shooting ever since the lockout started, and lifting weights. So I'll ramp up my conditioning a little bit this week and I'll be fine.

"It's good to be out of the unemployment line and back to what I do best."
But Bogut believes the tougher, tighter schedule will mean casualties from those who haven't put in the work during their time away from the court.

"If I was a punter, I'd guess there'll be a fair few injuries early on. "Hopefully most of the blokes will come back in shape, but a fair few who won't will find themselves in a bit of trouble because it's such a brutal schedule."

The 27-year-old's five months in playing limbo - not helped by a massive insurance premium dangling over his head preventing him from taking the court - has allowed him to work on several off-court projects in Australia.

The most ambitious is his move into athlete management - Bogut and his agent Bruce Kaider teaming up as partners in One Management Group and Consulting. With one eye on his own future after his NBA career, Bogut will now help manage the affairs of other athletes.

Heading the stable of athletes are fellow Australian basketball stars Patty Mills and Lauren Jackson, Western Bulldogs' AFL player Shaun Higgins and US-based Major League baseballer Peter Moylan.

Bogut is scheduled to return to Milwaukee on Tuesday, ahead of club training camps scheduled to start on December 9.

"I worked on my post-up game, my isolation game, working at the elbows, trying to get fouled and get into the lane and put pressure on the defense," Rose said. "I'm trying to do better than last year. That was a good season, but it's last year. Only a championship will do."

Kobe advised him to work on his post game. I like Rose. He seems to be open-minded and he obviously listens to good advice.

Mark hasn't been associated with the Hawks for over a year and it's rather dubious as to whom he helped as a shooting coach.

It only mentions that he was a shooting consultant for us.
