I had a feeling that Schlenk was going to get Murray. Well done. Great deal for the Hawks.

With the addition of Murray, what are the Hawks plans with Huerter?

Word is that he is being actively mentioned in trade talks with multiple teams.
While we'd rather trade Bogdan, he is 30 years old with a history of knee issues + a trade kicker payable by Atlanta. It'll be a lot easier to simply move Kevin Huerter now that we have an excess of SGs.

Oladipo is off the list, he stays with MIA for one year at 11M
Tucker sign with PHI for 3 years/33M
Portis stays with MIL for 4years/49M

Personally I would trade Bogi unless there's a great offer for Kvon (which there won't be)... If we're basically up unloading salary for a pick or role playing defensive player, Bogi should go.
Also keep in mind Kvon Under contract longer, younger etc... And we have no picks in the future

Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)
I'm not sure we need a backup PG, it depends on what Cooper can bring next season, but the defensive guard are getting signed:
- Rubio will sign a 3years/18M contract with CLE
- Payton will sign with POR for 3years/28M
They both could have been great replacement for Delon. But right now, I don't think there was a possibility to sign them to this money, even Rubio (fits under the Apron, but maybe not once cap holds are added, if any as I didn't check how many players would have been under contract)
EDIT: we are getting Aaron Holiday

Majority of the useful bench players have been snatched up already. I think we up standing pat because of it.

I still think Hawks want to duck the tax. They're going to shop Bogi and probably trade for anything before the season... Collins I could see them being more patient to see if we can get some real assets

That KH trade is rough. We didn't even get back a starter. How we currently stand salary wise.

But in the end, Bogi is a winner, has more impact than Huerter, and they are pushing each other with Trae to get better, so it's what I said for weeks, Huerter going out before Bogi.
Now, I don't know what to think of this trade, I thought he would be more traded with John or Clint for a big player at first, but maybe there are teams preferring a pick instead of Huerter... and that SAC pick will be used in another trade

So is it just me or anyone else bummed out?
Does anyone else think this move had nothing to do with basketball... It's just a nice to cut under the luxury tax. Why the heck are we trading 2027 unprotected picks if we're so freaking scared of paying the tax... SMH
I don't know I'm just not feeling like we're on a "title" track... You should never make trades you lose just to save money.
And I'm seeing the idiot Kings win a trade, insane.
Then I'm seeing the freaking TWolves trade every pick AND take on that huge contract cause they want to win.

Kevin didn't play like a starter with any consistency, was about to have a big extension kick in, and just had his minutes reduced because a far superior player was acquired. What were you expecting?

I'm not even remotely bummed. This team is far more ready to consistently and sustainably win playoff series than it was two weeks ago.
The Hawks told you what they were gonna prioritize. They did it.

I think it was a good trade. With the addition of DJ Murray one of Bogi or Huerter had to go. Huerter probably was more attractive since he is under contract longer and he is younger, plus Bogi just had surgery. So not sure what a team would had offered anything worth while.
We got a first round pick for Huerter that has the potential to become a lottery pick. That trade was outstanding for the Hawks

I am glad Rudy Gobert is off the table now. I would rather have Capela with Gobert’s contract.

We are still over the luxury tax.

In my head it sounded right.
But let me write it a better way. I would rather have Capela because Gobert’s makes to much money.

I'm also searching the real goal of this trade, but the thing I didn't think first was that this pick might be added for another trade, if they saw that other teams prefer a pick than a player. But Huerter contract could also allow to match more salaries...
Now, I always had the feeling that Ressler would be OK to pay the Tax, but once he's sure that the team can contend for consecutive years. I was thinking that if ATL was once again in ECF this last season, it would have been the green light to pay the Tax, but as it was not the case, he takes a step back for this season, and might pay it in 2023-24 if ATL contend again this coming season.
Now, I hope all the changes will be good as the fiasco of this last season was mainly coming from too many injuries, and I'm afraid a bit from coaching. I hope that Nate will be able to make this team work from the start, and that the staff will take care of the player (not like last season when some players should have start with fewer minutes coming back from surgery)

Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)
Very unlikely to be a lottery pick...
It's all about the tax, they saved $4M. The Kings need to make the playoffs in 24, 25, or 26. Or it's 2 second
lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
