Would have been an easy 2nd round pick in a stronger draft. Maybe we can package some 2nds and get a late first.

A lot of coin flipping on, I assume, Friday. At least, in recent memory, the tiebreaking has been done the Friday after the season ends. 8 of the 14 teams will be participating, including of course, DAL.

Yup. Last year the season ended on April 11th and the toss was Friday April 13th, this year season ended April 10th and toss on 12th.

Interesting fact:

2018:

Mavs won flip against Hawks -Hawks ended up with the 3rd pick and Mavs got 5th.

Bulls and Kong’s flipped to determine 6th and 7th. Bulls won the toss going in as the 6th place team and Kings 7th. Kings ended up with the 2nd pick and the Bulls got 7th.

Basically the winner turned out to be the loser.

2019 flip:
Grizz
Pelicans
Mavs

^Most mocks at this point have us taking one of the 3 & D wings (Culver, Reddish, Hunter) and then Jaxson Hayes in the top-10. I haven't heard much chatter about us and Hayes.

But strategically, it would make sense to get a defensive big man this draft...Though, I'm not sure if Hayes is the guy or if it's worth grabbing a defensive Center in the top-10.

This is a terrible decision after a sub-par season far Kansas. Dude fell from a projected top-10 selection at season's start to possible second round pick after a bad freshman year.

It's really dumb for him to come out now.

This guy gets my vote as the likely most productive prospect in this draft.

In 2017, we won the flip. We got the 19th pick, turned out to be John Collins

Yep. Best rule the NCAA has had in a long time.

All player-agent relationships, however, must be in writing, disclosed to the NCAA and ended when the player comes back to school.

In the past, if a college basketball player declared for the draft, they had until 10 days after the draft combine to return to school.

Now, players can go through the draft and have the ability to return to school if they go undrafted, as long as they inform the school’s athletic director by 5 p.m. the Monday after the draft. Say Maryland’s Kevin Huerter, for example, didn’t get drafted in the first two rounds — he’d be able to play for the Terps again.

Hayes, Big 12 Freshman of Year, opts for draft

Texas forward Jaxson Hayes, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, has declared for the NBA draft, the university announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-11 Hayes, who shot 72.8 percent from the field while averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.22 blocks per game this season, is ranked No. 9 in the ESPN 100 among NBA draft prospects. He said he would be hiring an agent.

A new NCAA rule allows a player who has declared for the draft to return to school even if he has enlisted the services of an agent to help him test his professional prospects. There are several stipulations attached, and if the player returns to school, he must end the relationship with the agent. The deadline to pull out of the draft is May 29.

This is a massive step in the right direction. My only concern in this scenario would be if he gets underdrafted. Whereas a 1st round pick has 3 years guaranteed and a team would spend multiple years investing in his development, if he goes in the mid to late 2nd round, there's a good chance he only gets a modest chance to prove himself and is likely relegated to the G-League for a big chunk of that period.

I still think Coach Self and the Big 12 are a better way to improve development and draft stock than the minor leagues. And playing at Kansas seems much more ideal than playing in College Park or Ft Wayne.

Either way, I wish him the best.

I agree. I don't see any bigs that stand out in the top ten. I keep thinking we trade down with one of our picks ( provided we have two ) if Schlenk sees one he has to have. I really don't like bigs who cannot generate any offense at the college level. The catch phrases for them is prospect and later on bust if taken to high.

I do think the centers will start flying off the board once you get in the 15 - 30 pick range.

Jaxson Hayes has tremendous upside when you consider he's only been playing basketball for three years. He has a ton of development but he could be a great defensive player with maybe potential to become a stretch 5 when you consider his free throw shooting.

Can Tacko Fall be the Mark Eaton to our Trae/Collins, Stockton and Malone thing going on with us?

I’m not loving the guy but when you have a penetrating lead guard like Trae that can easily navigate into the paint, it sets up easy looks for huge men.

Still gotta watch the camping out in the lane but if he was craft we’d have something going.

Thoughts?
