I'll be at the point where I agree it's shameless if they decide to shut Luka down for ROS. Until then I'm still firmly at the point in which they're going to win too many.

Harrison Barns does play the same position as the wonder boy and he isn't that good at it.

Here are Dallas's top players this season by PER:

Luka Doncic - Still there and active; big minutes starter and key player.
Dwight Powell - Limited minutes but highly efficient reserve.
DeAndre Jordan - Gone
JJ Barea - Gone
Maxi Kleber - Limited minutes but reasonably efficient reserve.
Harrison Barnes - Gone
Devin Harris - Limited minutes but reasonably efficient reserve.
Dwight Smith - Gone
Wesley Matthews - Gone

All other players have started fewer than 14 games and have PERs between 7.2 and 11.5.

They have Trey Burke, THJr and Courtney Lee who should all be contributors but who did nothing to stop NY from having a craptastic season (and they all rank from 6-10 on the Knicks in PER for the season).

I expect Dallas to tank it up the rest of the year but not quite so egregiously as last season. That $600,000 fine hasn't been forgotten (but neither have the incentives that led them to tank and brag about it last season).

They could go winless the rest of the way and the odds on their pick would still be in our favor. It is what it is. I'm going to be holding my breath on lottery night, but I'm not worrying about it before then.

Honestly, I'm expecting to be holding my breath no matter where DAL lands. I'm expecting them to get the "cold-envelope" treatment to keep their pick no matter what the odds say.

I do get a cold chill when I think about how unlikely and unfair a trio of Luka, Porzingis and Zion would be.

Hell, Mavs keeping that pick at all this year would be a smack in the face from the basketball gods...

They wouldn't take Williamson. They'd take a foreign guy since AAU kids are apparently horrible per the DAL eggsperts.

I don't really get into the conspiracy theories, but if I did I would say the league has more incentive to help us out. Dallas already sells out their arena and has a massive international following. Plus they haven't drafted a good player since Josh Howard (not counting Trae).

 The league ... help us out??!

I know you ain't new here, High5. When has the league ever ... ever ... done anything to help this franchise out? You think they gonna help us over the new golden child? Nah, whatever we get we gotta take on our own. They ain't givin' us sh*t.

We remodeled our whole arena and instead of giving the all-star game to us they give it to freaking Cleveland?!?! On the promise that they'll complete remodels that haven't even started yet? F them. F Adam Sliver and all his cronies. Them b*tches hate us and that ain't gonna change with this draft.

Sorry, H5. I ain't yellin' at you. You just struck my anti-league nerve. :)

Like I said, I don't do conspiracy theories. So I don't expect them to help us out. But I don't expect them to help out Dallas and Mark Cuban either.

We've got an ace up our sleeve when it comes to the lottery. I'm sure Tony went to her a few months ago crying "babe, I've got to have Zion. Please fix this for me like you've fixed everything before."

Mavs have 25 wins already. If they go 5-24 the rest of the way they still win 30 games. Will be very difficult, outside of laying a goose egg going forward, to get into the bottom 5 in the standings. Odds could still screw us with bouncing balls of course. Good thing Hawks have firmly planted themselves at 5th worst, no? Mark (Cuban) my words: Mavs head for the bottom and you'll see Hawks matching their losses if they get too close to us for comfort. Oops, injury to Dedmon (if he's still around) has a Len/Spellman platoon at C. Oops, injury to Lin (if he's still around) has a Young/Adams platoon at PG. Oops, injury to Bazemore and Bembry, good luck slipping underneath us for 5th worst. 6th with Grizz now in the mix.

I don't expect the Mavs to outright tank. They traded Barnes to get 25m off the books for the summer, and Justin Jackson can shoot it similarly. There's 5 teams in the East and 2 in the West that are tanking way too hard.

For their remaining schedule they get Mem 3x, Heat 2x, Suns, and Cavs. Outside of those teams, their schedule is brutal so they should be firmly in that 7-9 range once the dust settles.

Realistically looking at Mavs roster, schedule, current standings and interest, 7th place is very near.
