Jarrett Culver Declares for 2019 NBA Draft, Forgoes Last 2 Seasons at Texas Tech

Few players in college basketball have demonstrated a level of individual improvement on par with Texas Tech Red Raiders sophomore guard Jarrett Culver, and he is officially headed to the NBA.

Culver averaged 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 dimes per night behind 46.1 percent shooting from the field during the 2018-19 campaign. Attention now turns to how he projects in the NBA, and his combination of length and athleticism stands out. He is quick enough to stay in front of speedy ball-handlers on the perimeter defensively, but he can also bother jump shooters with his length and contribute on the boards.

Culver can also move into passing lanes and has enough versatility to defend different positions.

Offensively, he took a noticeable jump as a pure creator with the ball in his hands from his freshman to sophomore year. He can work in pick-and-rolls and either shoot when defenders go underneath the screen, attack the basket and finish through contact with his body control, or facilitate when the defense collapses on him.

Take it fwiw:

Reddish is a gym warrior so this just screams him being the pick.

Based off what he said they also will target Romeo, Keldon, Little, and possibly Rui with the Mavs pick but it does sound like if they think Clarke can potentially shoot they'll probably pick him.

Hawks like Culver, interesting... The other names are more obvious to me. Kinda surprised on Culver.

Culver is a fixed jumpshot away from being a perfect wing player...

I'm not 100% sure but I'd honestly have to lean towards Claxton staying in and I'd take a flier if so in the second. He'd have to be a redshirt and play in the G league but he has so much raw talent.

If you think Clarke will eventually shoot then I'd be happy taking him with the Dallas pick if it conveys. I'm not completely sold on him being like Marion but at the least I like him as a 25 minute elite role player off the bench.

Eggsactly. Their interest in him shouldn't be surprising.

We are miles apart on Culver. I don't see anything more than a long term backup role player with similar career impact to Bazemore. You see a perfect wing just needing a fixed jumpshot. We couldn't be further apart.

Big fan of Claxton. He isn't ready but he is exactly what you want in a year or two from a modern center. I doubt he will be available in the 2nd round.

I like Culver a ton too. I still don’t see all this Evan Turner talk. Still like Cam better but not mad if Culver.

After Zion, best player in draft is Ja Morant, even the great Jerry West thinks so.

If you guys land the #2 pick how much would you be willing to give up to move a spot ahead to get Zion?

I mean would you be willing to deal the second pick, John Collins and an unprotected 2020 first round pick for Zion?

Jalen Rose is more who he is like. He is not the passer Turner was but he is a much better decision maker. Jalen is who he reminds me of.
