Understandable. Collin is a beast and immensely likeable.

But it's worth noting that Nash and Amare never won a title.

Ideally, we build a true contender around those two guys. But if we're serious about winning titles -- not just making EC Finals, then we can't rule out pursuing truly elite players at the 4 spot because we really like John Collins.

I'm not in favor of moving Collins. And today, he's nigh untouchable. But if you could trade Collins for an elite 2-way big man like Embiid or Anthony Davis...it'd be really short-sighted not to consider it.

And if we get the opportunity to draft Zion, all bets are off.

If we can get AD for Collins, I would do it right now if he we knew he would at least consider returning. But that's the quality we are looking for. AD. Someone with elite quality

Not every great player/team gets to win a championship. It doesn't mean they're incapable. Winning a championship requires a fair bit of luck.

But I never said anything about trading or not trading Collins. There are a few unlikely scenarios where it could make sense. I just didn't agree with the notion that having the next Nash/Amare would somehow be disappointing.

Winning a title is hard. What I want is to be a legitimate part of the contender conversation going into a season.
D'antoni didn't care about defense, he tried outscoring teams.

The Hawks need defense on the wings and at center.

I think pelicans would take this Mavs pick and Collins for AD right now.

I just think it's better to wait until he's a FA. If Lakers blow there cap space this summer they won't be able to sign him outright. Wonder who will amongst Knicks and clippers will sign guys to one year deals for AD chance next year

Would you trade the #2 pick for KAT?

Two first round picks (assuming not number 1 and we keep Mavs pick) - top 10, Bazemore, T Prince, Len, Spellman for Anthony Davis

Why not keep the picks and sign Davis in 2020?

Is it coming with a guarantee he will re-sign?

Radio guy yesterday threw this out there:

Baze (expiring deal)
Prince (young asset)
Huerter (young asset)
1st round pick (so long as not Number 1 overall)

FOR Bradley Beal.

IF Wash decides they are indeed in a position to start the rebuild (which it looks like with Wall out another year), then why risk Beal being too good and leading your team to additional wins next year. Instead, start the rebuild with a Top 5-7 pick from the Hawks plus Huerter and Prince.

The Hawks then get a 25 pt SG to go with Trae and Collins PLUS they still have $40 Mil this summer for FA.

Do you do the deal?

Way too much for Beal. I want a trade that doesn't involve our core pieces but otherwise, I'll pass. I'll take 7-8 years of controlled Barrett over Beal by itself

My reaction is that they actually wouldn't want Baze or Len in the deal.

And I think they would counter...

AD to ATL for Collins, Prince and the 2 2019 draft picks.

Do you bite?

Why would we do this? He won't stay. I don't see us as an option unless we are adding him to our big 3 to convince KD to sign with us

No for me - 1 year rental regardless of what he says. I don't trust him and his agents connection to Lebron.
Davis informed New Orleans this week that there are four teams he would sign long-term with were he to be traded: The Lakers, Clippers, Bucks and Knicks.

I don't see the Hawks anywhere on that list and call me a skeptic I don't see him sticking around these parts to play with just Trae. I get the prevailing thought/hope that having AD will bring KD that's just as much as a crap shoot as the draft picks.

Davis leaves after that one year plus no Collins, Prince and 2 picks and all we are left with is Trae.

That risk is too high a price for me.

I have Beal on the same level as Joe Johnson. Which is good enough to get over paid but not enough to win.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
