What is happening here? There will probably be about 6 3nD wings taken in this draft who are better than WhOubre.

How many of these 3nD wings have amazing hair? Exactly.

John Hollinger wrote:In terms of targets, one guy Atlanta should have on its radar is Bradley Beal, who is under contract with Washington and making no noise about leaving, but he would fit this team perfectly if and when the Wizards decide to blow up the John Wall-Beal core. Most people in the league think this should have already happened, which is why the Beal situation is worth monitoring.

Another player they should look into is Hield. His contract is on the generous side after a tough year with the Kings this season, but he’s a prolific 3-point shooter who could terrorize opponents from the weak side of a Young-Capela or Young-Collins pick-and-roll. He might not even cost that much in terms of asset capital.

Forgive me, I was messing around in 2K...would Horford’s contract be worth it if we got Simmons? I really like him and Trae together.

Yes.

We'd absolutely have to take that.

Also, that would be an amazing haul to add to a Trae led team.

What would we give em, because I cheated. I gave em Clint, Dre, and a pick and I actually took back Richardson instead of Horford and forced them to agree.

everyone light a candle and say a prayer for our boy Spud who's taking a beating on the trade board for his Embiid to the Hawks proposal.

Spud, don't let em talk to you like that! We got your back (privately)!

Wait a minute. They can't talk to my boy like that. I gotta go in there swingin' both fists, then ask questions later.

Wait, wait ... Joe-L for Capela+? Oof. Maybe I'll go in swingin' one fist.

To get Simmons, we'd presumably have to start with John Collins and our 2020 1st rounder unprotected.

But I see Simmons best suited to play PF anyway, ala Giannis. I'd consider that a win in and/of itself.

(Having Trae and Simmons on the same team means we can place a top-10 PG on the court for 48 minutes of every playoff game. It also means we can run some of the most unique lineups from oversized (Simmons at point) to small ball (Simmons at Center).)

Simmons-Huerter-Trae is our own, better version of the GSW Big Three that Schlenk has wanted so badly.

Thoughts on acquiring Brooklyn F Caris Levert?

Would giving up Dedmon and either D Hunter/K Huerter be enough to get him?

Seth Partnow:Caris LeVert is an extremely interesting option who might be available, as Brooklyn very likely has too many on-ball chefs for its kitchen next year with Kevin Durant returning alongside Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie. The pairing with Trae Young would require some growth from one or both of them as LeVert has not been particularly effective in offball roles. But his ability to break a defense down off the bounce would be hugely welcome.

I do worry about the defensive fit next to Young...LeVert has been middling at best on that end.

Dave DuFour: I actually love the idea of LeVert next to Young on the offensive end. Not so much for what LeVert can do away from the ball, he isn’t great as a catch and shoot threat, but for his ability to get Young off the ball. Caris is a decent pull-up shooter, attacks the basket well, and isn’t a black hole by any means. While Brooklyn’s offense hasn’t utilized it as much, LeVert has the ability to score on cuts, which would maximize the power of Young’s gravity. LeVert is a threat attacking the basket, which, as a secondary playmaker, would open up new options for Atlanta’s offense.

...the biggest issues with a LeVert/Young backcourt pairing come on the defensive end. The Hawks need to figure out a way to bolster their point-of-attack defense and I’m not sure LeVert does enough on that end to help cover for Young.

Sam Vecenie wrote:LeVert had a strong year again, basically backing up what he did as a third-year player prior to his injury. If anything, he actually got better this year. He was coming on strong as the season ended. From Feb. 3 onward, LeVert averaged 24.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Even more than Spencer Dinwiddie, LeVert was becoming the leader in the absence of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. He punctuated it with a 51-point onslaught in Boston to lead Brooklyn to a pretty big win, then followed it up in the last game before the break with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists against the Lakers in a win.

No way I give Hunter for him. I don’t think I’d give Huerter for him. I don’t know, Levert has certainly improved and is a heck of a player and an example of hard work on and off... ok maybe I just talked myself into Dedmon and Huerter but absolutely not Hunter.

Here’s my thing about Simmons. He’s obviously very talented but hear me out when I say I don’t like his basketball feel. There’s a certain “feel” that elite players have or should have that separates them from others. Simmons has that in the passing but he can’t shoot and he will never be able to have that natural shot imo.

If it costs Collins and 2020 1st I’d rather not. It’s tempting but I really want guys that can shoot.

You might combat this with, well if he’s a PF, how great does his shooting have to be for his position. Which would be true as well.

that's right, but the difference is that Giannis is now even more a lethal weapon by hitting more 3pts, while Simmons doesn't hit one at all... hmmm... one ;-)

The more I think about this the more I like it. I don’t know that the package would be enough for him but if it is, I think I would keep Kev for his offensive skillset as a 6th man and then use our pick for an Okoro or Okongwu to come off the bench with him. Think a Levert/Huerter 2-guard rotation could be deadly.
