Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
I'd still strongly consider drafting this kid at #10. Even if he never fully pans out as Kawhi, having a Jaylen Brown caliber defender could be valuable for our team or in trade.

He weighs less than Kyle Lowry . Smh
His body is not gonna hold up in the nba.
Kevin Durant couldn't lift 185 lbs even one time. He was also horribly slow in his times. Also incredibly skinny, as skinny as they come really. Didn't matter though. He's tall and he can shoot. Bol is tall and he can shoot. In fact it's possible no one at his height has ever had a three point stoke like Bol's.
Ever hear of a guy named Porzingus?

Lakers are strongly shopping the #4 pick in search of a superstar or star but they need wings as they want to move LeBron to PF full time but want a wing who can also play in the paint as well. They are strongly looking at Sekou D. and DeAndre Hunter.
Man...LA fans would r!0t if they selected Sekou. Particularly in the top 5.
Maybe. They are looking at all of the wings. They want Bron to share the ball with Ball as a primary ballhandler and they want a wing or big who can defend the PnR and shoot threes. All signs point to a trade honestly.

You just described DeAndre Hunter to a tee. And D Hunter would fit well next to LeBron.
Sekou is just so young and so raw, I can't see him contributing anytime soon to a contender.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Question: What is the purpose of teams giving draft promises? So the guy won't work out for other teams? If you're the guy, why would you do that? There's nothing binding. What am I missing?

That's who it seems they are leaning to. They wanted Ja or Zion the most but that might be for an AD trade more than anything

I know there was some intrigue at the thought Culver might be over 6'7' and still growing...but it appears he isn't. Meaning Draymond-type versatility might not be in the cards.
Spoiler:
He is a solid play maker but more from the wing than the front court (especially at less than 200 pounds.)
Those Evan Turner comps might not be too far off. A realistic ceiling is the Philly version of Andre Iguodala. Which still has real value.
NOTE: He likely will be a better shooter as a 2nd option than we saw from him as a first option. (He shot 38% from three as a freshman.)

Locking in a player they covet for the most part that he doesn't workout with a lot of teams and someone tries to move up for said player. Travis isn't known to make promises
Most years, teams don't do it but in a draft so fluid, its common.

I don't see it but there is a chance he will be at 8th. I don't see it. Cleveland hasn't worked him out yet. That will be ciritcal. Coaches really have a big impact. Look at LP and Trae. That was LP and Travis guy.
Analytics and scouts liked JJJ and Luka.
Ownership liked Luka and Trae.

I still think Culver is a more modern Jalen Rose.

He has the potential to get a lot bigger and stronger, for what that is worth. Good character. Concerns about lateral quickness may hurt his defensive potential.

If the prospect also finds the situation or draft slot(salary) preferable then why workout elsewhere?

Also prevents injury during process.

To piggyback on the other guys...it's also a measure of control most draftees don't get.
These kids have complete control for their teen years. They decide where they play AAu ball.
They decide where they play HS (Academy) Ball.
They decide where they play college ball.
Then they get stuck for the first 7+ years of their pro career playing for terrible teams/franchises with absolutely no say-so.
Shutting down workouts (or withholding medical information) to honor a promise allows a guy to pick and choose which franchise gets to bring you in.
Doesn't always work, though. Sometimes, other teams pick you anyway.
And sometimes, teams don't honor their promise. (See Rashard Lewis)
