From the Sacramento Bee:

Kings mock drafts: Why analysts say the race for No. 2 is between Bagley and Doncic

Image

DeAndre Ayton, a 7-foot-1 center from Arizona, has become the consensus No. 1 overall selection among pundits. That's leaving a two-man race between Duke forward Marvin Bagley III and EuroLeague star Luka Doncic of Slovenia for the Kings, who have the No. 2 pick.

Doncic, who was once considered Ayton's competition for the top spot, has fallen in several mocks the last few weeks.

Bagley, who worked out at Golden 1 Center on Monday, feels he's the best player in the draft. "I mean that in the most humble way possible, but it's the type of competitive spirit that I have," he said.

NBA mock draft 2018: Deandre Ayton to go No. 1 … but then what?

3. Atlanta Hawks: Jaren Jackson, Jr., PF/C, Michigan State

Expected to be the youngest player drafted, Jackson, 18, projects to be an intriguing prospect as a 40 percent shooter from three (80 percent at the free throw line) who can also block shots and switch screens. That is exactly what every team is looking for in today’s NBA — something Hawks General Manager Travis Schlenk, who spent a long time in Golden State, knows better than just about anyone.

19. Atlanta Hawks: Dzanan Musa, SF, Cedevita (Croatia)

A 6-foot-9 forward with a 7-foot wingspan, Musa would be another long-term pick to pair with Jackson atop the draft for Atlanta, which has three first-round selections.

30. Atlanta Hawks (from Houston Rockets): Elie Okobo, PG, Pau-Orthez (France)

Sense a theme here? The Hawks, who already went with young, long-term plays in Jackson and Musa in this draft, take another one in this French point guard who appears set on coming to the NBA next season. He shot over 40 percent from three last season in France and could be a long-term replacement for out-of-favor point guard Dennis Schroder.

Would not be surprised if Schlenk sees a Klay in MPJ...at least offensively.

It is a solid haul for us.

But some of the other projections seem extraordinarily unlikely:

Bamba at #2
JJJ lasting until #8
Lonnie Walker lasting until #27
Chandler Hutchison in the lottery

It just flies in the face of most projections/conventional wisdom out there.

Completely agree. Porter to the Knicks is just cute especially when the rumors are he's trying to angle himself to CLE at 8 thus the canceled workouts and questionable releasing of medical info.

With the 3rd pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Luka Doncic...

Fran Fraschilla : Luka Doncic is the Magic Johnson of the European league...a teen phenom, a guy that has been playing with grown men since he was 7.33 years old (they used him to shag balls that were soccer kicked by guys that couldn’t stick in the nba). This is an excellent pick for the Hawks who have needed a face of the franchise since...well honestly since Nique... (hehehehe analysts all laugh..)

Cassidy:We are now checking in with Jeff Goodman who is tracking all the lastest ongoing trades...Jeff what do you have for us?

Jeff Goodman: First off I’m sorry for the lisp and inability to speak clearly I’ve been hanging out with a guy named Brad in Atlanta all week...I digress... It looks like the Hawks have traded away the rights to the #3 overall pick Luka Doncic, #19 overall pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Shareef Abdur Rahim, Brevin Knight and Lorenzen Wright and a future 2nd...

Entire panel: Woooooooooowwwwww...bold move by Atlanta!!!

Fran Frascilla: The Grizzlies are the perfect landing spot for Luka, his camp is thrilled! Goran Dragic is live with his thoughts about the drafting of Luka...

Goran (in weird high pitch Solvanian accent):

I think Luka is great....great at basketbol...he will be a very great player for a long long time in Vancouver and will go get the ball for Hubie Brown.

Me and kg... ugh sigh..another draft gone to chit

I ain't disagreeing with the above.

We'd be in the international spotlight with a proven franchise pillar. As long as Coach doesn't send him out there trying to play 1-on-5 offensively, he'll be fine. Reasonably 13/5/5 as a rookie.

He'll make Taurean and Collins look like superstars. (JC Kid should be hitting 6/7 from the field on a weekly basis.)
