Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
Hawks scouted Mario Hezonja a few nights ago. There's no way he falls to 15, to could it be a sign that we're thinking of a trade up?

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
Kaminsky does have some ball skills and Booker's athleticism (as well as his average length) surprised in the combine, but if they were just above average shooters, then neither is a top 15 prospect in this draft.
Really? I'm pretty sure that Kaminsky outplayed both Towns and Okafor in back to back games in the NCAA's. The only concerns about Frank are can he find the right system for his talents (Atlanta) and is he strong enough to play Center. Playing next to Horford he would have a nightly advantage at the 4. There aren't many 7 foot PFs with his jumper, handle and footwork. Remember, if Milsapp leaves we can still sign a real Center in FA. If a perimeter player is more to your liking, instead of Booker I suggest we take either Oubre, Delon Wright or RJ Hunter and not necessarily in that order. Point blank, we need another ball handler that can slash and score.

Man, I hope so. I hear this kid is brash and stubborn but supremely talented. I'd definitely be okay with trading up to get him.
I've been advocating trading Teague to get into the top 10 and Super Mario is one of the worthy targets of such a move. But, I have a sneaking suspicion, if we trade up for this kid...we'll be dealing Dennis and #15. And that makes me sad. Teague is good.
But Dennis has the chance to be really special. Admittedly, I am not sure Mario and Dennis could co-exist in the same backcourt.
So if we like Mario as much (or more) as Dennis...get it done.
But I still see Justise and Porzingis as the future stars of this draft with Stanley Johnson and Karl Towns right there as well. Mario is a huuuuge risk. But one worth taking.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
After the top 3 I like Porzigis, Winslow, WCS, Johnson as 5-10 picks. Kaminsky, Oubre would be nice at 15.
Hawks need to shuffle a bit. Probably won't keep both Carroll and Sap. Stay win now seems to be the course.
Since we're win now. I'd work hard to move into the top 10 ( trade #15, seconds, Minny, future pick, M Scott). WCS or Johnson would be top of my list
Don't mind losing Sap if we bring in R Lopez or Monroe or some combination like Koufos and B Wright.
Carroll would be harder to replace.
Love to bring in W Matthews
Can we keep Carroll, bring in more size to replace Sap and get a guy like Matthews? Seems reasonable.

This is a reasonable course of action, but with Korver and Mathews both coming off surgery our offense early in the season would struggle mightily. But moving forward, that would be a nice rotation at SG to pair with Teague.

I like the basic idea, but DET has enough cap space to out right pursue Millsap on their own.
Also, they just traded away last years draft pick to CHA to complete a prior trade, meaning they can't trade the pick itself again.
Also, I can't see SVG trading away big pieces of their young core for a high priced Free Agent at the end of his prime years.
Also, Millsap would have to agree to go to Detroit in the first place.
I'd love their pick and KCP...but we're gonna have to give up more to acquire those things.

What do you guys think of Kelly "The Best-Looking NBA Player Ever" Oubre? He sounds like he has star potential, and may be around at pick 15. The Hawks could use an athletic wing with potential, right?

Not sure on Oubre; kid finally got it last year, but didn't really help his team advance in the tournament.
He has a couple of things going for him though; he gets to loose balls and he gets to the FT line.
Nothing wrong with his size, but will need to fill out to take on the 3s.
I'd take him over Kaminsky or Dekker, that's for sure.
Truthfully, I'd like to see us somehow get Russell with DS and our 15th.

I think Hezonja is a more reasonable target if we're trading 15 and Dennis. I could live with bringing everyone back and adding a few rotation guys then.

I believe Kaminsky would be the ideal option and the player who is most likely to have a good adaptation to the league.
I am not saying he is the player with the biggest potential, but he is the player who will have the biggest impact next season.
I am sure he will play since day 1 as he is playing in the NBA for a while.
So I do not think he is goint to be there for us to take.
I would not select Hezonja in a millions years. Minimum of 5 years waiting on him to become a super elite SG or a tremendoues bust while he crashes team chemistry to small pieces.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
I watched the SEC all year, and Portis reminds me of Henson of the Bucks or even Muscala......they will never fill out enough.
If we are going to try and get someone to help us next year, if you're moving DS or JT, give me Grant.
Since we're picking before FA, we gotta take the highest ranked guy on the ladder....We would be okay if Kaminsky fell, but I doubt that happens.
At 15, I'm still all-in for Lyles....if he's not there, anyone like Myles Turner or Alexander? 2 big men with a good build on them....not sure if any of the 3 make a major impact next year though.

Am I nuts for wanting RJ Hunter to sit and watch Korver for a year before we can move on from Kyle?

Do you think that RJ Hunter is any better than John Jenkins?

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
Shooting wise, I'd say Hunter and Jenkins are about the same level but the difference is that RJ Hunter has the length that John Jenkins will never have.
Here's their combine measurements coming into their draft(s).
John Jenkins: 6"4 with a 6'8.5" wingspan and a 8'2" standing reach
RJ Hunter: 6"6 with a 6'10.5" wingspan and a 8"8 standing reach.
Hunter has all the physical tools to become a really good 3 & D guy in this league but the question will be whether he puts in the work and the craft to mold himself into it.

Wonder if Schroeder could get us another first. Starting to come back around to these mid-late round guys. Hunter might be a great addition along with Portis or Lyles. RHJ is intriguing also.

Here are the players I've heard the Hawks have worked out:
Kevon Looney - UCLA
Rashad Vaughan - UNLV
Has anyone else heard of workouts? Our team keeps things so shut down, there are very few rumors.
To me, its strange that we wouldn't want to get the publicity by promoting who we worked out.
Are we going to draft a guy who we don't even bring for an interview? Sure sounds like a great possibility.

I didn't even hear that they worked out Looney or Vaughan? Where did you read that? It's so hard to get an idea of what interests our FO around draft time because of how closed-lipped they are.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread
- zagblogs.com reported that Vaughan had a private Hawks workout yesterday.
- Found that Looney worked out for the Hawks last week with no mention of other players involved.
Not sure we are looking exclusively to bringing in guys to see us as much as we are heading out to see int'l players. Our net seems to be very small in regards to who we are looking at.
Updating this to include Bobby Portis, who is working out for us this week.
The one theme I see here is the Hawks aren't working out anyone who is projected to go in the lottery. Are we planning on dropping down to go another direction? We know there was disappointment with Payne last year where we selected him.
