I know RJ and Cam get all of the headlines right now and deservedly so (I think RJ will be a killer and a dominant scorer in the NBA, Cam has a chance but his mindset is his biggest issue imo) but let me explain why I like Romeo and Zion so much.
Romeo is a super skilled wing who can handle the ball, shoot, has more than enough athleticism, and has a cerebral game that shows he has a high basketball IQ. He's reminds me of Joe Johnson tbh. If you ask me his ceiling is an efficient outside shooter with slash and drive and kick ability. He doesn't look like a defense stalwart right now but I think he can add that to his game ala Klay Thompson. I really think he's the most skilled wing player in the draft not named Barrett. I would love RJ at #1 but if we don't get that pick this is the kid I want.
Zion on the other hand is lauded mostly for his athleticism and rightfully so. I think as far as athletes go, he could be the most athletics player to enter the draft at his size since Lebron James. He cleared the entire rack on his vert at Duke and that was at like 270 pounds. I think his target wait should be around 240 - 250 and that Duke program will get him there. I know athleticism is not the only factor in drafting players (see above Romeo Langford) but Zion has the rare athleticism that allows him to pretty much do anything on the court. He's about 6'6'' and will prob top out at 6'7'' (they'll list him at 6'8'' in the league) so he's not a huge wing but his weight and strength will allow him to guard 1-5 (5 in a pinch, he's not a 5) on the court. He has the potential to be a grab and go player that can be unstoppable on the break. His halfcourt game will need work (I'm so glad he's going to Duke to learn from Coach K) but if he develops the IQ and a serviceable jumper he can be one of those "positionless" players so many NBA teams drool over. I think he can average 2 blocks a game at his size right now which is an elite skill already. Put him next to a skilled point guard *cough Trae Young cough*, and shooters and watch his game flourish.
Honestly, I'm not under the belief that this draft is weak. I think the lottery has a few guys that will be impact players in the NBA including but not limited to: Nassir Little, Bol Bol, and Nazreon Reid.
Sorry for the long post. I love the draft and the Hawks.
I'll be keeping a close eye on Duke with Zion and RJ and Reddish. Like Bol Bol too going to Oregon. Isn't that Dorsey's school?
I'm very impatient to get to the next step of adding a bunch of young talent. Kinda tired of dealing with Dedmon, Baze and Linsanity. Bring on the rebuild..... In the meantime Collins, Prince, Heurter, Trae, Dorsey and maybe Bembry can step up.
Zion reminds me of a very youg Barkley with pogo sticks in his sneakers and PG skills in his pockets. He got that BIG behind and can just explode way up in the air from any position. Silky smooth too. I hear he's down to about 255.
