I'm very pessimistic about Trae also. Unless he makes some unprecedented improvements to end the year or next year im ready to write him off on becoming a "star". I didn't watch him in college but I never seen a supposedly high powered offensive pg brick so many open 3's.

Call me impatient w.e but I been burned severely by all of our prospects in the previous rebuild.

Still too early to call on Trav's gamble. But it can undoubtedly be questioned at this point.

Every NBA Team's Biggest Regret of 2018

Atlanta Hawks: Dealing Doncic

Image

Look, we get it.

Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk honed his front office craft with the Golden State Warriors. Through blurred, ultra-optimistic vision, you can see some Splash Brothers resemblance in Trae Young and Kevin Huerter.

The problem is Stephen Curry is a generational talent. Klay Thompson is a generational shooter. Expecting either Young or Huerter to approach that territory—let alone both to do so simultaneously—seems preposterously far-fetched.

And to think, by dealing away Luka Doncic, the Hawks parted with a potential superstar-in-the-making to chase this vision.

If the campaign closed today, Doncic would be only the 10th rookie—and first since Grant Hill—to average at least 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Young, meanwhile, would be just the fourth freshman in the three-point era to average 14-plus shots a game with a sub-40 field-goal percentage.

Yikes.

Drafting players based on a vision of a another player in the league is foolish and never works let alone trying to build an entire team around that.

But I guess it is an easy sell to an ownership who probably doesn't know much about basketball to say we are going to be the Golden State Warriors and we are going to get our Stephen Curry in the draft then to sell the ownership on your own unique vision. :noway:

I wonder how many more can't miss prospects we are going to pass on because they don't fit the Golden State mold.

Atleast he was willing to go through a rebuild instead of pulling a Ferry by keeping an old mediocre team together and saying we are going to woo star free agents with our 40 win seasons and our "culture". :nonono:

Wrong thread, man.

Luka's great. But our two assets we got in return still have a chance to be special.

Time will tell.

Draymond has beer with Atlanta..

1. We didn’t draft him despite working him out a few times.
2. We don’t game plan for him which pissed him off a couple years ago.
3. We drafted a guy some morons liken to Curry who doesn’t nearly have Trae’s raw court vision.
4. Schlenk was their guy..Draymond likes to talk crap in general, why not about somebody who left them to be with us in a larger role.
5. Draymond has agendas like many on this Luka thread.

All the people who weren’t upset about the Doncic trade are now just banking on the low first round pick from the mavs to become another Kawhi ,to save face, but these are the same people who said Marvin, Sheldon, and Childress were great picks, so what do they know in the first place

:-?

That's weird since those players were drafted 7 years before you logged onto RealGM...

Or were you speaking of other people in a different place?

Or were you referring to an old username?

Hawks GM traded Doncic for Trae AND next year's 1st round pick. Next year's pick is already a dud (useless)
and will never make it in the NBA.

Which dud will we pick? Or, should we simply give him away now?

Not really. Most of us knew Doncic would be the better player Year 1 as he’s had pro experience.

They did that the moment we drafted Trae lol. Luka is the new NBA golden child.

My only impatience with Trae, at the moment, is his Shot Selection.
As for the actual trade - Ask me again after the 2019 draft - Trae will have COMPLETED his 1st year and we'll know where the Dallas pick ends up.

wishing for an improbable future hard enough can actually make it seem like it could happen; usually doesn't

the future doesn't exist yet, the present does and everything that i see in the presents indicates to me that we missed on Doncic bad. Trae will be decent and the pick will be very late lottery at best. Something else could happen though

Question: Who do the Hawks need now to be really, really good?

Trae Young came back in for the Hawks late in the second and did a good job of getting into the paint. One of the big stories of the second though was Young’s first three-point attempt in six quarters (which he missed). Young is definitely making a concerted effort to get in the lane and make plays first, scoring second which is a great mindset for him to be in as he continues to struggle with his shooting from beyond the arc.
