Without Waffle House, Okogie is adjusting to life in the NBA

There isn’t a single Waffle House in the state of Minnesota.

Sorry, Josh Okogie.

Aside from a drive of 420 miles from Minneapolis to the nearest Waffle House in Missouri, Okogie will have to wait until a return to Atlanta for a trip to the restaurant. He has other things on his mind at the moment.

Okogie is just beginning his NBA career. The shooting guard has turned in two solid performances in his opening games of the tournament made up of team rosters consisting mostly of rookies and first-year players.

Okogie combined for 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block in 63 minutes for the Timberwolves entry in two starts.

As for that big off-court adjustment, Okogie recently posted on social media a map of Minnesota showing not a single Waffle House with the message: “Definitely took it for granted @wafflehouse.” It prompted a response from the restaurant chain.

There will be one trip to Atlanta for a game against the Hawks as a rookie next season. The Waffle House lights will be on.

Shout outs to Kevin Knox who has looked surprisingly effective as the #9 pick:

His perimeter defense was the biggest question mark for him coming in...does not appear to be an issue after losing some weight and a ton of body fat.

Wendell Carter Jr. Showcases Why he was a Top-10 Picks

Wendell Carter Jr. flaunted his top-10 skill set to the tune of 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Plus, he flashed nimble feet and checked Young step-for-step on the perimeter several times. Take all of those contributions into account, and it's clear Carter could evolve into the ideal complement alongside sharpshooter Lauri Markkanen.
Bleacher Report

Wendell Carter Jr. looks like the real deal

...after three games playing for the Bulls' entry this summer, top draft pick Wendell Carter Jr. has drawn nearly unanimous acclaim as an NBA-ready big man capable of making an immediate impact as a rookie. Carter has made a big impression as a rim protector with 11 blocked shots, while also showing the lateral quickness and close-out ability to defend smaller players on pick and roll switches. As you'll recall, that was one of the biggest question marks about Carter after playing a lot of zone defense in his one college season at Duke.

[I]t's the 6'10" rookie's play on the defensive end that's really opening the eyes of NBA talent evaluators. He's blocked shots in just about every situation, from 1-on-1 post defense, to weak-side help at the rim, to switching on to smaller perimeter players. The Bulls ranked last in the NBA in blocked shots a year ago, so adding an agile, quick off his feet post man fills a glaring need.

WTF is lumpia?

There's a WHouse within walking distance of the 'sac.

On topic, Oko will make a lotta teams regret not drafting him. He's also gonna make Wiggins' life really hard.

FWIW, I think Okogie would have made an ideal back court mate had we drafted Luka. They would have complemented each other perfectly.

I am glad he got away from Atlanta the city, though.

Too many potential distractions.

The only negative thing I see in his game is predictability. I feel like I already know the moves he’s going to make before he makes them. Seems like he has a few moves only. Having said that, if you only have a few moves that work and you stick to your strengths like he does, then it’s actuallt a strength. Very quick and mobile big man.

KG, looks like your Ed Davis comparisons might be a bit off. What’s lumpia huh? That’s exactly what a Filipino would say

Why are they in love with him if he’s a traitor like Al? Watch him stab the Bulls in the back like Al did us.

TBF, YOU MADE A NUMBER OF LESS THAN COMPLIMENTARY COMPARISONS:

kg01 wrote:Carter would be a solid pick but would be a wholly disappointing type of player to come away with in this draft. I see a middle-class man's Ed Davis. Will hang around a long time but .... *yawn*

How many Duke busts do I have to point out before you give me the benefit of the doubt, btw?
Jan 2018

And admittedly, it is still only Summer League. I like what I've seen from the kid since November. His shot blocking and rebounding seem like they could be elite coming into the league as a teenager.

NOOOO!!!

I do hope Doncic is new era Magic Johnson.

I also hope Trae surpasses Steph Curry, that Mavs pick scores us the next Scottie Pippen...and that our teams meet multiple times in the NBA Finals.

It'd be great for our franchises, those players and the NBA.

Too soon to tell.

But I've sang this kid's praises so loudly and so frequently, I think I'm tethered to him in these halls for years to come.

I think he's a 16ppg/12rpg/2bpg anchor for that franchise over the next decade.

I'm not even sure if that would be considered a success at this point....

Return to Atlanta Hawks
