Re: 2017 Hawks Offseason Thread
Babbitt is immediately plugged in as the best 3 point shooter on the team. I really hope we end up going back to the basics of the long ball within these next few years. Coach Bud's system is predicated on being able to hit the long ball and that seems like something we've gone away from since that 60-win season.

Bleacher ReportAtlanta's Biggest Regret of the Offseason
Trading Paul Millsap About Five Months Too Late
Are we going to acknowledge the Atlanta Hawks lost two top-25 players over the past two offseasons for a combined return of one low-end first-rounder or nah?
The Hawks did well to extract a pick out of the Los Angeles Clippers...
Also: They didn't do that well. They needed to take on Jamal Crawford and Diamond Stone to grease the wheels, both of whom they later waived.
...they could have done better months ago...or in 2016.
Millsap's name surfaced on the chopping block last summer while Atlanta was (inexplicably) trying to forge an Al Horford-Dwight Howard frontcourt. It then returned to the speculation factory during the middle of the season when the Hawks were contemplating a teardown.
On the wrong side of 30 and with free agency on the horizon, Millsap never would have commanded a king's ransom. Atlanta's current front-office regime, headlined by general manager Travis Schlenk, also isn't to blame for the franchise's inaction.
That still doesn't let the Hawks off the hook. They'll be lucky if the Houston Rockets pick conveys earlier than No. 25 overall. That's not a strong enough return for an All-Star—especially one they undoubtedly could have dealt for more on multiple occasions.

That doesn't acknowledge that everything changed between the trade deadline and free agency. Bud and Ressseler were obviously, and publicly, committed to bringing Sap back and I'm sure would have brought him back had the front office not gotten shaken up.

This is true.
Very good points.
But there is a certain amount of causation in these two instances.
Bud, Wilcox (and Ressler) reportedly had Millsap on the trading block multiple times over the last year. They neglected to move him him for value.
The team got drastically worse.
And Budenholzer then lost his front office post. The whole reason Ressler demoted bud and went in an entirely new direction with outside counsel is at least in some part due to the fact that Budenholzer screwed the pooch on the issue.
Repeatedly.

But didn't Ressler said he made the final call, and that the trade of Millsap didn't make it to his desk and if it had he would have voted no to it? Or am I misrembering that article? (Will look for it later)

The thread is here.
But considering Tony made massive wholesale changes to the front office 10 days after saying there wouldn't be massive wholesale changes to the front office...well.
Ressler stated that he makes final decisions in May. No one else.
Ressler stated Schlenk makes final decisions in June. No one else.
I repsect his need/desire/decision to lie to the fanbase.
But I also don't believe a single word he says.

Honestly it was Gearon's decision to throw a grenade on the organization that set the dominos falling all the way to the hiring of Schlenk. Hopefully we can truly start over now.

Marco's having himself a fairly productive summer.
Any chance he is our starting SG on opening day?

Definitely a possibility but Baze better come out and win the position with that salary.

Sounds like a really mature guy. He might have been perfect for our our team this year if we kept it together from last year and not lost Horford and Sap. He almost seems like a perfect 10th man on a championship squad.
Despite obviously not being one of the top players in the league, I still think he has the ability to tutor Collins pretty well due to his great communication AND professionalism.
Great add in the long run for us as far as influence on the younguns.

Nuggets and Wolves for me too. I never cared anything about the Wolves but I want to see how good they are going to be. I like their lineup.

Likewise. I was really rooting for Millsap to end up there, as that IMO would have made them an undeniable top 3 team in the league.

PG: Dennis Schroeder/Malcolm Delaney/Tyler Dorsey (GLeague)
SG: Kent Bazemore/DeAndre Embry/Marco Belinelli
SF: Taurean Prince/Nicholas Brussino/Luke Babbitt (is he a SF or PF?)
PF: Ersan Ilyasova/John Collins
C: DeWayne Dedmond/Mike Muscala/Miles Plumlee
OR is it:
PG: Dennis Schroeder/Malcolm Delaney
SG: DeAndre Embry/Marco Belinelli/Tyler Dorsey (GLeague)
SF: Taurean Prince/Kent Bazemore/Nicholas Brussino
PF: Ersan Ilyasova/John Collins/Luke Babbit
C: DeWayne Dedmond/Mike Muscala/Miles Plumlee
In either line-up, I expect to see Bembry running the offense some.
So looking at your roster, how many of these players do you see on your roster in 3 years ??
