McCollum goes off for 40

CJ McCollum put on an absolute show on Tuesday night, dropping a 40-ball on the Bucks to lead the Trail Blazers to an impressive win. McCollum finished with 40 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in the victory, and even made rookie Donte DiVincenzo fall in the process.

It's approaching the point where one could argue Budenholzer going to MIL wasn't just good for the franchise, it was good for the entire NBA. I just hope TOR, MIL or BOS can actually give us a compelling NBA Finals matchup.

How do you know when an upstart contender hits another level? It looks a lot like what Antetokounmpo did in Thursday’s second quarter at Golden State

in one corner, the sport’s dominant dynasty and the West’s top seed; in the other, a challenger with the East’s best point differential—had fought in a phone booth, with neither side able to get hot from behind the 3-point arc or create more than two possessions’ worth of separation. And then, with 5:01 to go in the first half, Giannis Antetokounmpo checked back in, and everything clicked:

He drew defensive attention to create a short runner for Pat Connaughton. He grabbed a defensive board and pushed the ball in transition, where he’s as unstoppable a weapon as the sport has seen, and forced Golden State to put him on the foul line. He drove directly through Kevon Looney. He carved his way to the cup for a loping finger roll, then spiked a Durant layup with extreme prejudice on the other end.

All of a sudden, that three-point lead ballooned to 15. The Bucks had just crushed the two-time-defending NBA champions in their own gym. By the end of the barrage, Antetokounmpo had totaled nine points, two rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block in barely three minutes. On a court also occupied by two in-their-prime NBA MVPs, he was the best player—by far.

The Bucks hung 105 points in three quarters on the Warriors despite making only eight of their 31 3-point attempts.

After the 134-111 pummeling, Antetokounmpo verbalized the message he and the Bucks had just sent: “We’ve arrived.”

...it’s impossible not to come away from these first few weeks of Bucks basketball astonished by just how much better they look under Budenholzer than they did before his arrival.

So far, it looks like it’s unlocked Antetokounmpo, allowing him to be the most fully formed and devastating version of himself we’ve ever seen—one capable of not just snatching a game out of the hands of two of the five best players in the world, but doing it so stoically that it barely registers. The Bucks have arrived. Giannis is here. The future is now.

This is a tough...turn of events.

I'm now rooting for Brooklyn to get Zion. Their fans have been through enough IMO.

With fewer than nine seconds left in the second quarter of Monday’s game between the Nets and Timberwolves, Minnesota wing Josh Okogie raced down the court after Caris LeVert missed a 3-pointer. LeVert recovered quickly enough to chase Okogie down and attempt a block on the layup attempt. Their bodies collided midair, with LeVert landing awkwardly on top of Okogie. The crowd in Minneapolis fell silent, according to reports from the arena. LeVert had suffered a serious leg injury, and the reactions in the building were eerily similar to the ones that emerged after injuries suffered by Gordon Hayward, Paul George, and Shaun Livingston. There’s no need to subject yourself to the video. LeVert was taken off the court in a stretcher with a towel over his face and was immediately transported out of the Target Center to a local hospital for further evaluation. In a matter of seconds, the Nets’ entire season was turned upside down.

The timing of the injury can seem like a cruel case of déjà vu. LeVert, who was drafted 20th overall in 2016, likely would have been a lottery talent if it weren’t for the foot injuries that plagued him in college. It looked like a gamble on draft night, because that’s exactly what it was.

Before Monday’s game, reports surfaced that the Nets refused to include LeVert in any trade packages for Jimmy Butler. That’s as clear a sign as any that LeVert had something special, and hopefully he’ll get a chance to show it again.

I feel bad for Levert's injury but there is NO WAY I'm rooting for the Nets to get a higher pick than the Hawks. I have no sympathy for their fans or the Nets.

Well, to be fair, you're also pretty heartless so ...

Heh, kidding. But, no, I'm not rooting for any other place to succeed before we do. Nobody's been through more crap than us. Nets have 2 back-to-back Finals appearances in recent history. They aiight.
