Sounds like KAT is no longer untouchable...

He hasn't been mentioned lately for trades, no one on MIN has but he's the most likely candidate to me. Then again, the return is probably what they care about the most.

He doesn't play often due to injuries, his numbers have declined greatly, possibly has mental issues since covid wrecked his world, but he has a friend contract if he gets back to the player we all know he can be. I personally don't believe he's anything close to being a leader.

He's a much better fit than Siakam but his price will be sky high. Not sure what value OO has with Gobert on the roster. Same for Capela. If JJ or Griffin look really good at beginning of season they would have interest.

I would hope OO could stay ni a KAT trade. (Though that seems unlikely.)

OO would thrive as the defensive specialist and inside scorer next to a jump shooting big like KAT.

KAT+OO+Trae is our own version of the Nuggets Jokic+Gordon+JamalMurray.

For sure but I think wolves will be asking for JJ, Griffin, Kobe and FRP with Hunter and then Capela going somewhere else for salary

I'd still be willing to sell the farm to pair up Trae and KAT.

I believe the two of them under Quin's tutekage could produce multiple seasons of the highest scoring offenses the NBA has ever seen:

A real homerun swing.

I'd really hate losing all depth at SG. And we'd need to move Capela to regain more perimeter shooting.

...but after 25 years of mostly mediocrity (and 3 straight 41+ win seasons), what do we really have to lose?

B/R's Hottest Takes for this Season

Atlanta Hawks Trade for Karl-Anthony Towns

Image

The Hawks traded away John Collins this offseason and could use a third star who can play power forward and complement Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, cementing this team as one of the elites in the East. Adding a three-time All-Star who can shoot, rebound, pass and operate in the low post would give Atlanta a dangerous Big Three and help push for home-court advantage in the playoffs.

For Minnesota, this is a financially motivated move that also helps restock some assets lost in the Rudy Gobert trade.

A package of De'Andre Hunter, Bogdan Bogdanović, Kobe Bufkin and first-round picks in 2024 and 2028 should be enough to get a deal done, especially since it takes Towns' four-year, $223 million extension off the books for the Wolves. This adds a ton of length, playmaking and shooting around Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley Jr., Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid and company.

The trade also helps keep Minnesota from reaching the second tax apron, something that could become a possibility when Towns' extension kicks in and McDaniels gets a new deal as well.

Towns will be a Hawk before the Feb. 8 deadline.

So much for KAT not allowing a team to have a strong defense with him in the frontcourt.

If we paired him with Clint, could we possibly have a similar defensive leap? Maybe not an all time great defense, but an above average one built around Capela and Karl-Anthony?

Knicks just discovered Karl-Anthony Towns' true trade value

If the New York Knicks are going to trade Karl-Anthony Towns, they are apparently looking at a return comparable to what the Atlanta Hawks received for Trae Young.

Speaking on his Katz and Shoot podcast, Fred Katz of The Athletic shed light on how people inside the NBA view New York’s big man. “I’ve spoken to people around the league, and asked them, ‘Where do you think his value’s at?’” he explained. “And the most common response that I get is, ‘Look at the Trae Young deal.’ Trae Young had a player option for next season, and all he got back was CJ McCollum, and Corey Kispert, and that was it.”

According to Steve Popper of Newsday, the big man is currently being dangled in trade talks with multiple teams. The list includes the Charlotte Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Orlando Magic.

For their part, the Knicks could just be doing their due diligence in the wake of a debilitatingly bad stretch. Just because they’re gauging Towns’ market doesn’t mean they’re prepared to accept pennies on the dollar for his services. Perhaps that changes if the locker-room dynamic is so very down bad that they believe his exit would be addition by subtraction. They have given no signs they’ve reached that nadir just yet.
