The AthleticMinnesota, Golden State, Chicago, and Atlanta don’t seem to be in love with keeping their picks in the top 10. Travis Schlenk has already started making moves toward accelerating the process for his young group. He traded for Clint Capela to give them a veteran defensive presence in the middle at the trade deadline. But we never got to see him on the court before the shutdown. Now the Hawks are looking to move the sixth pick in the draft if it helps bring in another veteran, preferably on the wing, to help balance the attack for Young.
The Atlanta Hawks are looking to move the sixth pick for some veteran leadership to help Trae Young win quicker. Jrue Holiday would be a perfect backcourt mate next to Young, especially considering Holiday feels much more comfortable as the guy off the ball. He would provide great defense and leadership. If the Hawks managed to throw the sixth pick, Dewayne Dedmon’s $13.3 million contract for next season (only $1 million guaranteed in ’21-22), and a future pick, that would be the start of a really good trade package for Holiday. It wouldn’t be about the Pelicans needing the sixth pick necessarily. They’re plenty young already. But it’s an asset to flip down the road as they try to navigate the small market existence with maximizing value all around.

CBS Sports2020 NBA Draft: Biggest needs for all 30 teams entering the offseason
There are no perfect teams entering the 2020 NBA Draft
Atlanta Hawks
Draft picks owned: 6, 50
Needs: Perimeter defense, backup point guard, shooting
The Hawks stocked up on 3-and-D wings in the 2019 NBA Draft, but neither Cam Reddish nor DeAndre Hunter quite proved themselves as long-term cornerstones. Another swing on that archetype could help offset Trae Young's weaknesses on defense. On offense, he is so impactful that the Hawks fall off of a cliff whenever he sits, so finding a viable backup behind him is essential if Atlanta wants to win next season. Despite Young's reputation, the Hawks had the lowest 3-point percentage in the NBA last season at 33.3 percent, so more shooting is a necessity.
Potential fits: Tyrese Haliburton, Isaac Okoro, Devin Vassell
If Haliburton is around at No. 6, he could be the perfect fit for Atlanta's needs. He's long and athletic enough to grow into a stout perimeter defender, and has the ability to both play alongside Young and fill in the back-up point guard minutes.
If you're not as concerned with offense, Okoro is arguably the best perimeter defender in the draft and should be effective in a transition-heavy offense.
Vassell is built in the more traditional 3-and-D mold, and has more upside than some of the other prospects with similar profiles, though No. 6 may be a bit high for him. - Colin Ward-Henninger

OK with the picks at #6, but dissing Hunter and Cam for not "proving" themselves during their rook high usage season is ridiculous

Busting BracketsBest prospect fit for each franchise among top 10 picks
6. Atlanta Hawks – Killian Hayes
Atlanta has their young core and an all-star in Trae Young. They have their wings in Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. They have bigs with Clint Capela and John Collins. The problem with Atlanta is that they need some help at the two-guard slot. And I don’t think Kevin Huerter is the answer starting. So why not grab the best combo guard in the draft.
I think what makes Hayes perfect in this slot is their need for an extra playmaker. Young has been the only guy on Atlanta that can make plays for the team and that’s not even his first instinct. Hayes is best as a playmaker and a great pick and roll player which will fit perfectly with Capela and Collins. Hayes is also an excellent on and off-ball defender which is something that Atlanta desperately needed. As the Hawks were one of the worst teams in the NBA in defense last season.
I believe that if Atlanta can’t [acquire] Hayes at No.6, they should trade the pick. There’s not another prospect that pops out at me and that would fit with their already excellent young core. After not winning at least thirty games the last couple of seasons, it is time for the rebuild to be over in Atlanta. If Atlanta does not at least make the playoffs this season or produce another low win total, look for there to be a coaching change at the end of the season.

This is not a Hawks guy. Not a Schlenk guy.

The AthleticChris Kirchner wrote:The Hawks are interested in (in no particular order):It seems as if Auburn’s Isaac Okoro and Florida State’s Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams appear to be in the second grouping. This could change later in the week.
- Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Deni Avdija
- Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton and
- USC’s Onyeka Okongwu.
Just from reading between the lines in my conversations, it does seem that the preference — if it came down to this situation where Avdija is off the board and he isn’t an option — is Haliburton over Okongwu. Either way, one of the Hawks’ top options should be available if they stay at No. 6.
There’s some belief that Okoro has similar qualities to what the Hawks already have on the roster, while Vassell has some in the building who really like him and others who are on the opposite end of the spectrum. I’ve heard from other teams that Okoro is slipping a bit and could go outside of the top 10...
Obi Toppin isn’t a total cross off for the Hawks, even if they have his clone in John Collins, but it doesn’t seem likely. If the Hawks were going to select a big man, it would be Okongwu. Some might wonder why the Hawks would be interested in a center when they traded for Clint Capela at last season’s trade deadline...Okongwu is viewed as someone who could also play the four some, so it is possible he could get minutes at both the four and five. The Hawks do need a backup power forward — whether it becomes Hunter or Okongwu is obviously unknown right now.

Re: 6th pick
If this turns out to be true, that means one of Obi and/or Deni Avdija will be available at #6. That should leave some serious opportunities to trade down...
NBC Sports ChicagoKC Johnson wrote:Rumor: Bulls to draft Patrick Williams No. 4
But this is indisputable: The buzz surrounding the Bulls becoming increasingly focused on Patrick Williams is intensifying by the day.
One league source even went so far as to say he’s under the impression that the Bulls have told the Florida State forward they plan to draft him should they not trade up from No. 4.
While multiple theories exist for all teams at this time of year, several league sources told NBC Sports Chicago they have heard of the Bulls’ growing intrigue in the 6-foot-8 Charlotte native.
