1. Even if we include Gallo as a PF, there still are only 5 low post players with Capela, Collins, Okongwu and Fernando. It is routine for any given roster that there are 6 (3 PFs, 3 Cs)

2. Between Goodwin, who is the 4th PG currently on the roster, and Skal, who both would represent a 6th post player and who was a high draft pick... my money's on Skal.

Also add to the fact, when you think back to the rotation of bigs last year...fans don't want that again. :D

No one wants that again! But, I don’t see Skal as a big improvement over what we had last year.

i’d also include Hunter. He spent plenty of time at the four spot last season and I expect to see him there again. I agree that Goodwin's time might be running out. I just don’t think it will be because of Skal. We’ll see. It’s not like we have a super long wait for the season!

Goodwin, Fernando, and Hill we be non factors this season. The former two will be bnf between the Gleague and latter may not make the team or cheer lead on the bench. Snell should play Bembry like minutes since he can defend alittle and shoot a decent clip.

Huerter could be squeezed into a deep bench role if Bogdan is signed. I'd fully expect him to get moved for draft comp by the deadline/offseason. His 3rd year was always his make or break season even before all of moves now Schlenk is not bashful about it anymore.

Huerter will benefit from both Bogi and Gallo. It will be competitive during practice, and I expect Huerter to be more of a me guy to some degree, but not over the top.

Snell’s shooting is much better than decent.

I’d love to see that. My main complaint about him is he doesn’t look for his shot enough.

I was trying to put minute counts next to everyone and I couldn't make it work, but a few things to consider especially this year:
1. COVID could force players to sit out
2. Make ups could create more back-to-backs and it will be key to be able to rest players often
3. Although we probably can't play Rondo and Dunn together, we can still run two PG sets with either of them paired with Trae
4. I still think Gallo is part of the "bigs" rotation backing up JC. JC will play some C and Okongwu will be eased in to the rotation.
5. Goes with 4, I'd much rather see Cam starting at 3 (assuming we land Bog) than Gallo, because Cam will help keep Capela on the floor longer than if Cap had to account for Gallo along with Trae (and JC to some extent).

MPG counts... believe one has to assume on any given night that 5 guys will sit the entire game unless/until it's a blow-out, but that the 5 guys will alternate from game to game... older players (that's you Gallo, that's you Rondo) will get more load-management nights off than the others, too.

In the words of the great philosopher Sir Roderick David Stewart...

"Tonight's the night. Gonna be alright. (mumble mumble) Ain't nobody gonna stop us now."

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this would appear to be "the" roster for all intents and purposes that (a) was the glimmer in Schlenk's eye when we first learned that DH8 had been traded to the Hornets many, many moons ago, and (b) will essentially be our roster for the next 2-4 years, because of the contractual commitments on the books now.

Championship?

Doesn't roll of the tongue, does it. But like most teams, it all boils down to how good the young core become still yet. Can Trae keep adding ASG appearances? Can JC make his first one? Can DHunt, Cam, Red Velvet and Bruno continue to grow and mature into something close to their projected ceilings?

They all remain key, though BogBog obviously now comes along side them as a booster rocket (as Capela already had).

Even with Covid concerns, I'm still not sure how a lot of these guys will get minutes. I mean we can truly go 2 deep at every position, and we have enough guys to even guys to go 3 deep. I guess Snell, Goodwin, Hill, and Bruno will get the majority of the DNP's, with the occasional load management days for some guys. Have to assume it will only be so many load management days considering a shorter season though. Especially for a squad that has a lot of newcomers.

Establishing chemistry and trying to determine your best lineups would have to be a priority also. You're looking at no TC and a week to determine your rotations and get a feel for one another. A lot of this will be done on the fly it seems.

If there is not a 6th post player added to this roster, look for the enthusiasm for Bruno to be the reason for that.

They can survive with Hunter playing some PF if need be, and of course, Gallo seems ticketed for most of his minutes there.

Me, I just think between Skal and maybe a Noah Vonleh or even a Jordan Bell--all of those are available, and are at least as credible to have on your roster as Solo--there's a better way to use that last roster slot than having a 4th PG (Goodwin). And, let's not forget, Pierce basically stopped playing Goodwin for the last month before the season stopped in March. They were already cooling on him.

(That's not to say I was, btw. I was going to be okay with him as our 3rd PG.)

Did a little 538 math last night before bed, and found that if you compare what players we replaced with their replacements on the roster, almost all of the improvement is on offense.

That is the sum of the replaced players' RAPTOR scores was -19.9... whereas the sum of the replacements' scores was 3.8... so that's a net 23.7 turnaround.

Defense? Not nearly so exciting, unfortunately. We got worse, actually, going from -1.0 to -2.3.

Mind you, since Capela was already on the roster, his 4.2 on defense doesn't help move that needle, so there's that... but then again, if we pick out Len's defensive RAPTOR number, and do that math there is still only a 2.1 net gain to be realized, meaning the number goes to -0.2 instead of -2.3.

Of course, there is no RAPTOR score for Okongwu, but if we assume something like 3.0 in his rookie season--ambitious but I'd think reasonable--that's a stout addition here.

By the way, BogBog's defensive RAPTOR score for last season was -0.4, which I think somewhat substantiates my position that he's really a fairly adequate asset on the defensive side.

Strange.

Then again, it was strange to see them try to play 6-5 Uncle Vince at PF at times, too.

It's good news for Bruno.

They clearly must think he's really ready to shine.

It's good news... most obviously... for Goodwin.

It's beyond me how you justify carrying 4 PGs when you have two of the legitimate four bigs on your roster with foot injuries going into the season.

Frustrating that beat writers don't have the presence of mind to ask the natural follow-up questions sometimes.
