The Hawks had been looking to move Solomon Hill, out for the season with a hamstring tear, in order to open a roster spot.
There was also belief among rival front offices that the Hawks would be willing to part with De'Andre Hunter to bring a significant veteran contributor to Atlanta. The Young-Capela pick-and-roll is expected to be the foundation of the Hawks' attack for some time, so it's unlikely Hawks F John Collins will ever inherit the bigger offensive role he desires unless he gets a new home. If Atlanta can find a suitable deal, that outcome seems quite possible. “Travis is not going to be afraid to shake it up,” one general manager said.
There was a Q&A on The Athletic were he clearly said he was not asking mainly for more shots but for a a more "defined role", which I understand. We saw the impact of the team depending on how many 3pts he takes, so that's a good point.
Problem is: what skill does he have to get a clearly defined role? He can only shoot threes if someone else creates a totally open shot for him, by pulling his defender off of him. He has zero post game. He's weak on the inside, got no handles and a very average passer.
The only thing he does at a very high level, besides hitting open threes, is jump. I think that the problem is that JC doesn't want to see his limitations and play a more defined role himself; as in an over-paid role player
