I wish we were seeing these guys compete against actual future NBA players...

On Kobe Bufkin: “I’m a little worried about him. Athletically, he’s fine. He’s too quick and too strong for guys here (Las Vegas Summer League). But he’s got to shoot it better. And he has to stay healthy. Hopefully it will come together for him,” a Hawks scout said.

I fear Kobe is NOT getting his option picked up this Fall.

We'll see if he can develop his shot.

He is only 21 years old, so I would hate for us to not pickup his option, but he is owed a great deal of money.

The Atlanta Hawks reportedly are moving on from one of their young players.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Hawks are trading Kobe Bufkin to the Brooklyn Nets in return for cash considerations. According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the trade will create a $5.4 million trade exception for Atlanta. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25249567-nets-reportedly-trade-hawks-kobe-bufkin-sg-was-no-15-pick-2023-nba-draft

Our lack of backup point guard is increasingly worrisome. I don't feel confident with a hodgepodge of NAW/Dyson/Vit/Kennard. Neither can handle the backup PG duties for long stretches.

Trae is about to have ownership over a barrel with no realistic options if he leaves.

My concern with Kobe is if he can be a better shooter. Shooting even 40% seemed like a challenge for him at the NBA level.

At Michigan he shot 38% from the field as a freshman and 48% as a sophmore. The 48% is probably why he was drafted and scouts thought he had improved.

He hasn't had a good anything to this point. In the summer league he was the guy and failed. SGA was never a bad shooter like Kobe is. Work ethic is everything...Kobe seems to lack it or just can't perform well in games.

Was never high on Kobe B. First two seasons derailed by injury and still very unproven at the NBA level has him in a tenuous situation as far as staying in the league.

He's also going to be buried on the Nets roster

I can't lie, I wish Kobe Bufkin was here getting burn as the backup PG right now. I view him as a higher caliber, more scalable prospect than Keaton Wallace.

With time (and good health), I believe Kobe could be having a comparable contribution as Max Christie or Ayo Dosunmo right now.
I understand not exercising next year's option for the kid. But just giving up on a valued prospect when we need depth and perimeter defense feels...wasteful.

These two players are in different universes.
Ryan Rollins knows how to score, shoot, and he's not afraid. Just about everything is difficult for Kobe.

It's rumored that Lakers had Kobe Bufkin in their sights during the 2023 draft -- until Hawks swooped in and drafted him at #15.

Bufkin has joined with Lakers G-League Team.
