Perkins pointed out that the Pelicans did themselves a favor by tweaking some details of Williamson’s five-year, $197,230,450 contract extension, which is replete with weight and performance clauses. He noted, though, that the time is right to part ways with the 25-year-old and start fresh.

“Think about this: the most hyped athlete since LeBron James, and he is on a non-guaranteed max contract. We have never heard of anything like that in life. A non-guaranteed max contract,” Perkins stated. “Okay, so he’s not available. What are you going to do with him? Like, they could waive him, they could trade him. What is his trade market? I think they should move on from Zion.”
