Why do the basketball gods hate the Hawks?

Atlanta will travel to Dallas, Charlotte, Brooklyn, Miami, and Chicago before playing a single home game. The Hawks struggled to make playing in Philips Arena an advantage last season, finishing only three games better at home than on the road, so it’s not the worst thing for Atlanta. But the Hawks’ depleted roster likely won’t have the experience to capitalize on home games this year, either — of the 16 guys on the squad, only one Hawks player touts a career average of 24 minutes per game or higher.

(Are you there, God? It’s me, Ersan Ilyasova.)

I guess in other years I might be upset at the schedule, but not this year. Again, I hope we compete, we share the ball, and we build chemistry, but not through wins. We need a top 6 pick (Bagley,Doncic,Porter,Ayton,Bamba,Bridges).

I will be ok if we lose a lot but honestly it will be hard for me to mad if we actually are winning.

Agreed. I can never really get mad at the Hawks for winning. I just want a couple of stars...seems every franchise has drafted one or two except for us since 1982...it's time.

We drafted Sabonis Sr. and Pau. Give some credit man.

I'd be very okay with this...

Trade Ideas for NBA's Worst Contracts

Kent Bazemore (3 Years, $54.3 Million)

Atlanta Hawks Receive: PF Kenneth Faried

Denver Nuggets Receive: SG/SF Kent Bazemore

New general manager Travis Schlenk has made it clear the franchise is "investing in the future," per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore. Ergo, they're tanking. Or rebuilding without trying to win. Whatever you want to call it is fine.

Either way, Kent Bazemore no longer fits the Hawks' timeline. He's 28, and Atlanta has younger wings to test out in DeAndre' Bembry and Taurean Prince. Bazemore also saw his offensive value plummet last year. His three-point clip dipped below 35 percent, he notched a near-career-worst success rate around the rim, and Tim Hardaway Jr. supplanted him in the starting lineup by season's end.

Paying out the $50 million-plus left on his contract doesn't make sense for the Hawks. The Denver Nuggets are a different story.

Their power forward surplus coincides with a dearth of wings. Having Bazemore to pester opposing scorers on the perimeter and drill spot-up threes off passes from Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap, his teammate in Atlanta, would be a two-way boon.

Kenneth Faried expedites the Hawks' path to financial flexibility. He's owed $26.7 million over the next two years—less than half of what they'll pay Bazemore through 2019-20.

I was just discussing this Bazemore for Faried deal on the T&T board - straight up deal. I would even be willing to include a 2nd round pick, less money and years for Faried.

Hawks land jersey sponsorship deal with Sharecare

The Hawks will wear an advertising patch on their uniforms, beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The Hawks and Atlanta-based digital health company Sharecare have reached agreement on a five-year deal that will put the Sharecare logo on the front left shoulder of the players’ game jerseys, team and company executives told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Channel 2 Action News in exclusive interviews.

Yawn. Typical Hawks.

Clearly should've been a Magic City logo :)

They may not be aware that Atlanta has an NBA franchise.

Spoiler:
True story: A friend of mine worked in the NBA in corporate sales for a few years and had contacts across the league. Apparently, a few years ago (circa 2013) Hawks corporate sales teams went to a number of Fortune 500 companies in the city with a former player in an attempt to drum up business, make some contacts, get in good with local executives and maybe convince them to invest in season tickets or executive suites for their employees.

Multiple times, execs in their 30s and 40s took one look at the player, shook his hand, and then asked privately who the guy was.

MULTIPLE TIMES, Hawks sales reps had to explain that the player they'd brought into the office, Dominique Wilkins, was a Hawks legend and NBA Hall of Famer.

Because long tenured, middle aged men in Atlanta didn't know the man by face or name.

Sad really.
The ASG did such a piss poor job of marketing the team in general.
