The general belief all year had LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman as top-three overall favorites, with Obi Toppin, Deni Avdija, Onyeka Okongwu and Isaac Okoro mixed into a tier that either slightly overlaps or follows. But based from some scouts' takes I've heard over the past few weeks, mock drafts could start looking silly right from the top.

I've heard Avdija being ranked higher than LaMelo. Wiseman graded as a late-lottery pick. Jalen Smith over Okongwu. Okoro being compared to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Patrick Williams mentioned as a sleeper to be the draft's top prospect. There are international scouts with Killian Hayes top five, and college scouts who "don't see it."

Opinions are all over the place. This year has all the ingredients for draft results that don't align with the narratives believed by media and fans throughout the season.

The last draft with this much uncertainty and varying viewpoints was in 2013, when Anthony Bennett went first and Giannis Antetokounmpo went No. 15. Who goes where in 2020 will come down to the order and eye of the general manager at each pick. And each GM's eye could wind up seeing something different by October

The lack of these players playing into March, the delay with the combine and draft have this draft going wacko.
It's gonna be an interesting one.

For me:
1. Trade
2. Okoro
3. Okongwu

Probably a minority opinion but I’m not really big on getting a backup PG in the draft. I think it’s better to have someone at least decently tenured to run our 2nd unit and we draft someone who already has a skill that will be ready to use and consistently valuable every game, and in this case I’m talking about defense.

Here is an article that covers a lot more of the interview.

“I think what makes this draft class difficult is a lot of players at the top you don’t have big books on them, a couple of them went overseas, got hurt,” said Schlenk. “One of them left college early..then everything got cut with the conference tournaments. You just weren’t able to see them play a lot this year.”

“We’re in kind of an unprecedented time here,” he continued. “The league has said they’re going to send out more information about the (virtual) combine, but they haven’t sent out that information yet...Now that we know our pick in the first-round, we’ll start trying to set up meetings with all the players that fit that pick.”

Schlenk did note there has been one silver lining in the draft preparation process, the ability to meet with more prospects virtually due to the lack of travel involved.

“We’ve been able to talk to way more kids via Zoom just because the travel is not involved like it would be in a normal year, so I think that’s advantageous in itself,” Schlenk remarked on additional complications COVID-19 has presented in terms of draft preparation.

When asked about adding quality veteran talent in the offseason, Schlenk noted this was a priority regardless of what the club does with the pick.

“Any time you have a young group, it’s important to have high quality veterans in the locker room to help groom these guys. That’s one of the reasons we brought Dewayne (Dedmon) back,” Schlenk said in regards to adding more veteran presence to the team.

Well 6 aint bad, because 2020 draft is the same as the 2019 draft.

Last year it was Zion and then 10 guys who were good enough to be #2. Same with 2020, there is Edwards at #1 and 10 guys good enough to go 2nd overall.

I'm a big fan of Jalen Smith and Okongwu, so I would probably look to trade down and get an extra pick, maybe with New York or Washington, or the Kings.

Hello from Wolves Nation. One of your members stopped by our board and said you had no interest in trading up for Edwards. Is that accurate?

If you're a big fan of Okongwu why would you trade down and miss out on him? You think Jaylyn Smith is just as good? I think Okongwu would be a gift to you. Nice to see you think Edwards is the clear cut best player as I'm a Wolves fan and most people believe we are taking him. :D

Hey, buddy ole pal.

And to be fair, I said we aren't trading Collins in a deal for anyone in this draft.

You said you weren't interested in trading up in this draft. You didn't specify that meant only Collins. However, now that that is clarified if we were to trade #1 to you what is the best offer you could make. I'm thinking maybe just maybe we would accept, Reddish, #6 and your 2nd round pick assuming you have it. Not saying we would, but that would be ballpark.

Sure seems that way to me, but it is one of the podcast trades floating around out there.

Hawks aren't interested in moving Collins for anyone in this draft. They are more likely looking to trade down.
