SO.....

Knowing what we know now.............

Once we agreed to the trade of Splitter, would you have renounced PM and resigned DMC?

Most of us said if you had to keep one, you would rather have PM over DMC. PM game can age gracefully, DMC will not. None of us thought we would have a center either.

IE
Teague
Korver
DMC
AH
SPLITTER

VS
Teague
Korver
Thabo
PM
AH

Interesting, Im not really sure. I think I like the team currently constructed vs having SPlitter be a starting caliber Center.

Is DJ really worth 20 million? 2.8 million less than LBJ? No. not even close. But his position and upside is worth that.

It's more along the lines that a player of LeBron's caliber actually has his earnings capped rather than you're paying guys to be of similar worth to him. In an open market LeBron could easily justify getting even 40 million but because the "Max" is a limit people don't look at it as his value being severely depressed but rather as a guy like Millsap or DJ being severely inflated....which is not true, like at all.

Well it works both ways. Market value for centers is about what DJ got. Enes Kanter just got offered a max.

The market determines values but you're right LBJ is a bad example because the market can't really reflect his value.

Starting PFs that are all stars get paid PM money. Thats my point

Man...defensively we'd be stellar with Tiago and DeMarre anchoring the defense.

But that lineup would struggle to score. Painfully.

I do like having PM, AH AND Tiago...but the fact they can't (shouldn't) all share the floor at once concerns me.

You want your top 5 players all on the court together down the stretch of a tight playoff game. Not an option with Paul, AL and Tiago.

Basically, it's a tough call.

Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread

I'll take Millsap at $20 mil annually over Carroll at $15 mil all day. I see Carroll as a product of the system offensively (82% of his points assisted last year), while Millsap is a player who'd be successful anywhere. Thabo can adequately hold down the fort at SF when he returns. I've seen a lot of people talking about how they want talent lately, well Millsap is a bigger talent than Carroll.

And 90% of the other "options" mentioned but c'est la vie.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this lineup at the beginning of the season

Teague
Korver
Bazemore
Millsap
Horford

Bench(no order)
Schroder
Hardaway
Holiday
Mike Scott
Splitter
Muscala
Tavares
Mack

When Thabo is healthy, they'll ease him in, and he'll get his starter minutes probably around December. This is a significantly deeper team in terms of talent and versatility. Should be an exciting season.

Millsap is talent for sure but most teams look to expand their talent not trade it for deficiency at another position :p

Hawks official depth chart lists thabo as starting SF and Bazemore as the backup , 3rd string is empty (meaning last roster spot is likely not signed yet)

I think Thabo is a better defender than Carroll and his rebounding will help ALOT, but A: He is hurt and B: the bench unit needs him.

Wouldn't love it...

but it'd make sense. If we can get good value for him, I'd be open to it.

Packaged with draft picks and young players (Mike Scott or Dennis), he could fetch us something spectacular.

Vucevic, Derrick Favors, Carmelo, Ibaka + Adams, DeMarcus, Embiid + Dario Saric, Giannis, Len + unprotected lottery pick from PHX, Dieng + K-Mart + LaVine,

The worse thing that could happen is AL walking away for nothing next summer...like what Aldridge just did. LMA went from excited about Blazer's future..to out the door because of injuries and a lackluster playoff run. Completely altered that franchise's fortunes.

We're very susceptible to that as well.

NOTE: I don't want DeMarcus on this team, but he would be very valuable as a trade chip for us.

Vucevic....that's it. That's the only one out of that list I would move Al for.

Sefolosha had injuries before OKC let him walk, he had injuries last year.

Last year he was the vet off the bench while we had an active starter in Carroll . this year......

I don't love how Carmelo & Paul would fit together, but Tiago-Paul-Carmelo-Thabo-Teague would be a hell of a lineup.

On both ends of the floor.

BOTTOM LINE: It's clear Horford benefits financially by becoming an unrestricted free agent. But if he walks away and we get nothing in return, Tiago & Paul might suddenly be prepared to do the same in 2017.

Yeah. Tiago and Thabo both have missed significant time due to injury in recent years. Definitely something to keep an eye on next season.

That's why I don't anticipate Sefolosha being the outright starter. They want to monitor his health and the wear on him. That's why Baze and Holiday will ease his work load

Moving Horford makes us rail thin in depth AGAIN......let's see if this 3 man combo can work together effectively.

And Holliday may get some minutes, but I don't think he can guard LeBron....Thabo will need more help than that.

Surprised Daye is gone....he had some size and I liked what little I saw out of him.

We are going to struggle at the 3 this year, that much is obvious.

Which begs the question:

Was it worth maintaining Millsap at PF at the complete expense of a competent SF?

Our rotation at SF AND Shooting Guard is fairly sparse right now. No lockdown defender, no go to scorer, no clear cut future starter on the team.

This is a steal of a contract. If Tavares develops properly in a similar fashion to how Gobert did..this contract will probably be in the discussion of best value contracts in the league.

Hypothetical:

Trade Teague+ Mike Scott for Chandler Parsons.

You have your starting SF, he shoots 3s, Dallas gets a PG and a decent rotation player(honestly I just threw scott in for salaries sake).

Prob would have to give Dallas A draft pick

Comes down to how much you believe in DS/Mack being able to execute the offense. Parsons isnt much a defender from what i Know , but I really like the rest of his game. Hes 26, but he would be a 1 year rental, because he has a Player OPtion i believe after this season. But, Teague might be on the trade market then anyway, AH will have a contract coming........

Return to Atlanta Hawks
