Can Portis play center? He seems to have the size to do it.

I've heard Celtics, Blazers, Bucks, Hawks are considering moving up. Pelicans may try to buy first-rounder. Clippers want to acquire a pick.

League sources say Pacers and Hawks had exploratory talks about swapping #11 pick and #15 pick. I'm not sure what else would be included.

I am hoping it has nothing to do with Roy Hibbert.

I am for almost anything else.

Who are the Hawks shooting for at 11? Whoever it is, we sure haven't heard of them working anyone out in that group.

Atlanta Hawks 2015 Draft Thread

Post#85 » by ATL Boy » Tue Jun 23, 2015 7:55 pm

Rumors swirling that teams are fearful of Cauley-Stein's foot issues (had a stress fracture his freshman year), and that he could fall. Would be a dream to get him in this draft.

I'm thinking We move #15 plus Mike Scott or 2nd rounders for #11 if Stan Johnson is available.

Also, I expect this trade to be completed only on draft night. If we swap first rounders ahead of the draft it impacts our ability to trade draft picks in future transactions. (No trading consecutive future first rounders.)

I know I'm in the minority...but I'd actually be very okay with taking on Hibbert's ONE YEAR CONTRACT. Roy H plus Tavares would definitely solve our issues in rebounding/post defense.

But I think we only move up if it's for a guy we really like at 11. And Stanley Johnson seems a perfect fit in our club.

This is Bud's version of moving up for Kawhi.

And now I see this...

The Detroit Pistons are targeting Stanley Johnson with the eighth overall pick assuming Mario Hezonja is off the board, according to a source.

So nevermind. But please tell me we're not moving up to draft Frank Kaminsky...That'd make four stretch-4s with limited upside drafted in the Age of Ferry.

Enough is enough.

I'd rather have David Lee and the #30 pick over Hibbert. I'm guessing that the Lee deal would be easier to accomplish, and he fits our up and down system.
Lee coming off the bench and playing for a contract works for me.

I will also say its important after last year we don't stand pat; we need to make a deal and try to improve the rotation.

Draft picks are so overvalued this time of year.

I'm listening to Bilas in the '03 draft and he's pushing Milicic hard. Reminds me so much of Porzingis. That kid is rail thin.

Its probably #15 and the wolves pick for #11 or #15 and 2016 pick for #11. I don't see any big pieces involved if its just to move up 4 spots.

Take a look at OKC's trade offer.

Hoping Kelly Oubre is on our list tomorrow. He's a smooth athlete and has a great amount of potential to give us a star player.

The Spurs are thinking about moving up from pick No. 26 and have talked to the Thunder about a deal that would give them the No. 14 pick, reports Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders (Twitter link). Presumably, the Spurs would have to include at least one other asset to accommodate such a deal, though it’s unclear what that would be.
Here

SAS getting aggressive in their own rebuild.

They have cap space and open rotation spots and are looking to improve drastically. Even with 2 Final appearances sin 3 years plus a title, they are not satisfied to stand pat.

My guess...they're looking to trade up and acquire Duncan's eventual replacement: Trey Lyles or Kevin Looney.

Please, Bud. Please show the same type of aggression. Find a guy you love...then go get him!!!

Jamaal, whatever Bud decides, I want him to find THE guy that will be in the rotation this season.

Lyles / Anderson / Kaminsky all could get minutes early on if they can get past Muscala.

Vaughn / Hunter if we need to protect ourselves from Korver returning slowly.

It almost sounds like I'd rather trade down huh?

If it rids us of Mike Scott am all for moving up. I want more roster spots.

Bad news, then.

On Tuesday, GM-in-waiting Wes Wilcox held a conference call with a few members of the Atlanta media, and he said flat-out: “It’s going to be hard for any young player to play on our team next year.”
Here

Hawks aren't drafting an immediate contributor, apparently. Which likely means they go young with big upside.

I prefer this approach. With the last decent pick for a while, you go after talent. Not who can simply fill a roster whole on the 2016 squad.

With that said, the above statement could be a complete smokescreen and we draft Bobby Portis to immediately start next to AL at PF.

Willie broke his ankle at the end of his sophomore season in the NCAA tournament. Since then, he's player major minutes without missing time. Someone is out there trying to find something wrong.
Willie has not played limited or sparingly all year. He's ready for the next level.
I hope 14 teams buy into the notion though if Bud isn't trading up.

I think so too. I'd take him at 15 no matter what but I don't think Indy will do the pick swap with us if he falls to 11. Bird loves Cauly-Stein.

That Indy rumor is alive and well....

Alex Kennedy: ATL has talked to some teams (including IND at #11) about trading up from #15. Some people around NBA believe the Hawks want Frank Kaminsky.
