Capela - Prediction: He stays, but ultimately, I won’t be surprised if he’s traded.
Collins - Prediction: Does not return.
Hunter - rediction: Does not return, but I won’t be at all surprised if he’s back.
Also gone - Gallo, Lou, Dieng, TLC, Knox
Back: Trae, Huerter, Bogi, OO, Johnson, Wright.

I'm kind of surprised by your predictions. Both JC and Hunter leaving would mean a BIG trade. I mean lie top 25 type player. Also thinking Cap might be moved...? I mean for all that we better be getting Luka and Brunson. I would through in a pick

Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)
I think Collins is the odd man out for sure this off-season. He can't carry an offense even in spurts and didn't really become a great defender. He will fit in well with a lot of teams and has good trade value.
Capella is not the "center of the future" in terms of his game so if there's an option to upgrade there I think they take it out even move off him and hand it to OO if they're able to get a wing who can create (easier said than done)

Does Kirschner have insider info or trying to get one of these network gigs with his predictions. Why does he predict Capela, Collins, and Hunter going out at the same time I'm assuming by the trade deadline.
I'd put money that Bogi or Huerter would be one of the first ones going out once the dominos start to fall.

Maybe because Capela and Collins got their money and have several years under contract, which might interest some teams.
For Bogi, I don't see it happening unless including in a deal for a real Star because:
- Hawks looked really better with him (and he had the best Net rating of the team this season which matches it)
- You wouldn't get any player better than him based on his salary
Huerter is a force on offense when his size gave him advantage, he torched PHI one year ago when Simmons was guarding Trae and he was guarded by Curry, but has less impact against higher wings, and doesn't look like a good combo on defense with Trae when playing SG.
One thing that may start to bring questions if Hunter, Collins and other get traded (and adding the Reddish trade), is how good Schlenk was at drafting players?

. I'm not crazy.
Oh, ok
I would be very surprised to see Hunter moved. JC maybe, Capela maybe. Just hard to find a deal to move "top" players

Because he isn’t used right and his usage has gone down. It would not be smart to watch his numbers/usage go down, panic and trade him with his value at the lowest.
The only C I’d move Capela for that I think is realistic is Ayton. Don’t really want Gobert with his age/contract + what it would take to acquire him. Other than that I’d give it to OO & hope he adds the jumper + improves defensive rebounding.

Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)
What I don't like in trading one or several of our main players is that they certainly will have less value than last year, because if you offer Collins, he will be seen as a fail and part of the reason for a first round exit, same with Capela, while both were injured but nobody is talking about that. Bogi too.
Now, if you keep them all and wait February, it will mean mid-season trade and few chances to have a better team for the playoffs.
Wouldn't it be better to trade players that were healthy during the playoffs, but wait one year for the other ones ?
It would mean Huerter, Hunter even if I don't like trading him at all because I think he's the one who can improve a lot this team if he's ready to play defense with energy

ESPN InsiderBobby Marks wrote:Cap-space breakdown
Atlanta will enter the offseason $1.7 million over the luxury tax if it retains Gallinari. The forward has $5 million guaranteed with the remaining balance of $16.5 million fully protected if he is not waived by June 29. If Gallinari is waived, Atlanta will have the $10.3 million midlevel and $4.1 million biannual exceptions. If he is on the roster, the exception decreases to $6.4 million. The Hawks also have $1.7 and $1.8 million trade exceptions.
Bogdan Bogdanovic has a 15% trade bonus in his contract that has a value of $2.7 million.

Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)
Gallo has to be traded on draft night to get any value. The next team has six days from draft day to either pick up or drop his contract which Schlenk is banking on I'd assume.
I think Collins and pick 7 has sum legs. Murray would need to be the pick for me to do the deal basically. Bledsoe is the salary filler and he has a non guaranteed contract hit of 4 million.
Dame
Simons
Little
Collins
Nurkic

So seems like Collins, Capella, and Gallo are actively being shopped... That's a LOT of matching salary!
I'd like to sell Collins when value is higher as well but I think it's just not possible on this team.
Getting a rookie at #7 won't really move the needle for the team IMO....I would love to get Jaden Ivey though.
Players known to be on the blocks: J Grant, Brogdon, Westbrook, Kyrie (probably), Christian Wood, DAron Fox, John Wall, Julius Randle,
Probably not: Donovan, Siakam, Beal

If we start to trade players under contract for picks, and to teams with cap room and get no salary back, or for player that can be cut and have less financial impact, it's a bit more doing a fast rebuild than building a contender roster.
Most teams ending in the Finals are usually trading for equal or higher contract which costs more, but leaves more flexibility to trade again (so in this case, Bledsoe should not be cut but used later for another trade).
Need to check, but I don't think that there a lot of non Luxury Tax teams in the Finals this last decade

I agree with what you're saying but personally I don't think we're a player away from the finals... Unless that player is Giannis

He can't be traded without guaranteeing his 2022-23 salary. At this point, there are two options:
1) Guarantee him
2) Waive him

I think we can trade him before July 1st without fully guaranteeing but we'll only be able to take back up to the guaranteed portion $5 mil salary plus the escalators (I forgot what the CBA says)...so a max of ~$11 million (I think, might even be as low as $8 mil)

It's a big problem when you have a team full of veteran players, but not so much big when you have young guys still able to improve.
If we are two players away from Finals, there's a possibility that only one is needed and that the other one came from three players improving by 33% each
No guaranteed, especially with a coach like Nate, but a possibility

I fear we may be overreacting to such a disappointing season...
Bleacher Report
Code: Select all
The Hawks are expected to be one of the more active teams this summer.
Following a disappointing season on the back of a 2021 Eastern Conference finals appearance, Atlanta governor Tony Ressler and president Travis Schlenk have already made public comments about needing to upgrade the Hawks' roster.
Behind the scenes, league insiders consistently mention Atlanta as a team willing to make wholesale changes. Rival executives view all Hawks players aside from Trae Young as eligible for trade.Re: What direction do the Hawks go now? (Offseason Meditations)

Agreed. Yes we need upgrades but throwing out the proverbial baby with the bathwater in an all out roster reconstruction seems reactionary.

The thing is that what the team accomplished two years ago (or a year ago, to be exact) was due to the fact that we played as a team and every piece offered what he could and knew so the overall achievement was big.
If we move 2/3 of the roster, obviously we will get into the problem of not knowing how the new players will mess up together. It could be a disaster. It could take long to simmer...
What I believe is that everybody could be available IF the right deal arrives. I do not think we are going to sell everybody just for the sake of it. But, with patience, when you know in general terms what you want to get, probably 2-3 moves could be done.
