I'd almost rather just take Gortat and his expiring contract. Millsap has been a great addition, but it's clearly only a short term move.

Gortat, from what I've seen, could be a nice fit alongside Horford as well.

But Gortat can bolt anywhere he wants in 2014, while Pekovic gives you a low post scorer for next 4 years.

Understood. But neither Millsap, Gortat or Pekovic is exactly a franchise changer. Just complimentary pieces. We'd get over it if any of them walked away. We covet cap space (for better or worse) more than we covet those players...

If we are trading Millsap I would rather do something that would send Sap to the Rockets, ASik back to CHI and land us Noah while still productive... Obviously ATL could add Jenkins and/or Cunningham and/or pick to HOU so more value is going back to CHI.
Thoughts?

That's my thinking also. I would try to get what I really want and Noah is that

I'd be onboard with that. We'd have potentially (with Demarre Carroll) the best interior defense in the league.

Would be enough to keep AL happy long-term and perhaps draw a top SF or SG to join our team as a scorer.

Oh okay. It shouldn't be too bad given the team that ATL has and his contract isn't bad all things considered.

But what about Amir? What would ATL move for him?

Atlanta Out: Paul Milsap, Elton Brand, Future lottery protected 1st
Atlanta In: Thaddeus Young, Omer Asik, 2nd round pick

Houston Out: Omer Asik, Donatas Montiejunas, 2nd round pick
Houston In: Paul Milsap, Elton Brand

Philadelphia Out: Thaddeus Young
Philadelphia In: Donatas Montiejunas, Future lottery protected 1st from ATL

Atlanta gets 2 difference makers for the price of one and move Horford to PF. Elton Brand is not in their future plans and is thrown in to make the salaries work so it's more like Milsap and a 1st for Asik and Young. Thad Young can play the 3 and backup Horford at the 4. If they want to go small when Asik sits, they still can with Horford at C and Young at PF. In the week East, they won't be missing the playoffs anyways so the 1st round pick will be less valuable and they can use it to get better right now. Highly unlikely they get a player where they'll be drafting better than Asik or Young. Young is 25 and Asik is 27 with low miles. Horford is 27 and Teague is 25. This is a unit that can grow together.

Houston gets a good PF on the 2 year deal they prefer rather than the 3 year deal of Thad Young.

Philly gets a young 7 foot prospect with decent upside and a 1st rounder while shedding contract, fulfilling Young's supposed trade request, and committing to the tank/rebuild.

I think this is a pretty fair trade for all teams. I'm open to tweaks or suggestions though.

Not a good deal for the Hawks. They would basically have no space to do anything after making there draft pick this summer which could be a lottery pick since they can switch with the Nets. Millsap is better than both Asik and Young so I am also not giving up a pick. Trading Millsap for those players would really hurt the Hawks offense.

Not familiar with the Hawks' cap situation so please fill me in. What about the MLE? I guess my other question would be how much cap space would you have exactly without doing this deal and do you have your eye on any free agents in particular? This trade would pretty much solidify you're starting rotation.

It is indeed a pretty fair trade. We'd definitely have to think about it. Fans here are split on Asik and down on Thaddeus, but giving up one and getting two guys back capable of each matching Millsap's production on an avg day is intruiging.

we'd have a solid, young core, and since the picks is lottery protected it wouldn't hurt us too bad with lots of young talent already in the pipeline.

Know that the issue giving us pause the most here is the inclusion of the draft pick....beyond that your deal is at least a compelling one. One we'd at least have to mull over.

I think a lot of the issue is about the position question in regards to thad. Is he a sf or a pf?

9 players with almost $48 million spent. We could re-sign Mack and Mike Scott for about $2.25 million that would make 11 with $50 million. Sign your draft pick. If it is a lotto pick via Nets it could cost us close to $4 million, then you have Bebe, Muscula, and 2nd rd pick. You have then reached the salary cap and can use the exception, but I doubt Pau Gasol, Spencer Hawes, Gortat, or even Evan Turner could be had for the exceptions.

If you add Young and Asik you are adding 9 million. So, you are at the cap with 10 players, your draft pick adds $4 million. Re-sign Mack and Scott, Bebe, Mus, and 2nd rd pick puts you at about $65 million which is not bad. That is a good team but much depends on the draft pick.

Teague/Mack/Schro
Korver/Lou/Jenkins
Parker/Young/Carrol
Horford/Scott/Antic
Asik/Bebe/Musc

Not a bad team but that is best case. I think Millsap fits better and would not do it. Asik is overrated and really does not fit this team. I would rather have Gortat or even Hawes.

Asik doesnt fit the team's offense but he's not overrated, he is probably the best defensive center in the league and he only has a 8.3m$ caphit, that's ridiculous.
I think the Brooklyn pick will end up being late lotto one, but still, that could be a really nice pick-up for Atlanta.

Considering Al's injury would you either tank or do this:

Sap + Rights to Bebe and 2014 2nd to HOU
for
Asik and T.Jones

Asik
Jones
Carrol
Korver
Teague

prior to Al's inhjury we were in a "wait and see" position regarding Sap's suitors for trade...
Not the case anymore as he will get a lot of defensive attention and his value might decline rather than going up, especially if ATL remains a candidate for play-offs. Pressure would be on ATL to get the team stronger and bigger...
I would hate to lose Sap as I think he is a big part of this team success but for now and the future, is it realistic to beleive that we can carry on playing small ball with the kind of talent that we have? I am not convinced this would be enough. Who will pick up Al's minutes? A few more for Elton, Pero and mostly Ayon? What do we do if one of those 3 gets hurt?
I feel for Al and the team at the moment as Ferry will be forced to make some tough choices one way or the other...Time to bring back Muscala or Bebe, or both while getting a little bit of value ( 2nd pick on a Cunningham trade)?

Hawes and Turner without giving up Millsap or a 2014,2015, 1st would be great right about now.

If it was too much to give Millsap for just asik, then why a re we also giving up Bebe? Take Bebe out and it is better.

I suggest that you post this deal in trade & transactions for feedback. I think they would be interesting.
