It seems to me that Mo Evans is a more effective player than Marvin.
Starting Marvin throughout the season made sense because of his tremendous upside, but he has struggled mightily. Its hard to break Marvin down because skill doesn't appear to be his problem it seems to be confidence.
A trip to the bench and TIME and maturity could help. Marvin is awfully young.

It also seems that the lineup of JC, JJ, ME, JS, and AH is the Hawks most effective offensively. Mo's skillset (3pt shooting, and athletic forays to the hoop, without ballhandling) plays well off Joe and Jamal's tremendous one-on-one and great ball handling.

I'm officially of the opinion that the Hawks should trade Marvin in the offseason. He's just not a good fit on this team and the money could be used better elsewhere.

I think it is too late in the season to try the switch in the starting lineup too much potential downside if they don't respond the way you hope. In the longer term it's a hard call. If Joe is resigned, then I would love to see Mo and Marvin switched in hopes that it might spur Marvin to better performance in the different role. If Joe leaves then perhaps Marvin steps up without leaving the starting lineup. There is also a chance Mo Evans opts out to try to land a slightly more lucrative deal.

As far as trading Marvin, I fear the market is too soft for him. Under the current CBA, his contract is not unreasonable, but that might not be the case under the next CBA. He's not shown the confidence to become a bargain. Someone might be willing to take him on under the hope that new environment and coaching will make him blossom, but I doubt they'd be willing to give up much talent in the move. Which means if we give up on him, we really have to give up on him with little to show for it. I suspect they would want to rebuild some on his market value on the court before they pulling the plug on Marvin in the ATL.

The way we've (mis-)used him, no way we get anything of value for him. We'd have to trade with some guy who thinks he's supercoach and can turn on Marvelous' talent. Even then, what would that team offer?

Our options are either find a way to use him or give him away for nothing.

I agree, but I wonder how much of that is just bitterness that he could have been Paul or Williams...I know I think less of him based off that, not that it's his fault.

i said this in the beginning of the year, that a plan for Joe would be to let him walk, trade Marvin and Zaza for 2nd round picks, and sign a top 3 2010 free agent and let Mo take the starting SF/SG spot. Marvin can do more than Mo, but Marvin needs the ball in his hands, and Mo is still effective without the ball and hitting the occational open three. Mo is nothing special, but he is solid without any major liablities.

Harry...what team with capspace is going to trade it for Marvin & Zaza when there are guys like Boozer,Gay,Lee,& Amare out there?

^ spurs have cap, blazers have cap...... and Gay is going to get paid way more than Marvin.

I'd gladly do Marvin for picks + expiring contracts.

Portland has no capspace next year considering Roy and Aldridge's extensions kick in. I would also love to know how the Spurs have caproom. Duncan,Parker,Manu,and Jefferson alone probably put them over the cap.

No team is going to use 11 million dollars worth of capspace on a 10 and 5 SF and a 4 and 4 backup center when this is one of the strongest free agent classes ever.

He doesnt fit on this team. He doesnt have goood iso skills and is inconsistent in his spot up jumper. Hes a solid defender but can be a liability on offense.

Depending on the draft, LAC and Minnesota are two teams that I think would be interested in Marvin.

So maybe we should stop running iso? The thing that kills our team anyways more times than not?
