We could have used the contract for better talent.
We needed his offensive leadership and sadly still do. I remember thinking it was a good deal at the time, but now seems like bad money. Our resigned players from last summer show trying to stay course which got us to 53 wins. Unfortunately they also represent shortcomings that might keep us a cut below. Zaza's got a lack of length but we needed him for big man depth and toughness. Marvin was resigned for what he could become, but he seems a long way from living up to the promise. Now it seems like we would have been better suited to take a step back rather than invest in less than optimal choices. We don't have the deep ownership pockets to overspend mistakes. Resigning Joe at the max would follow last year's thinking that if we don't resign these guys we'll take a step back, but in retrospect maybe we should have.
My worry about Teague is that in watching him play he isn't getting past his defender very often. For a speed guy, you like to see the ability to blow by the guy covering him to force the defense to react. I'm withholding judgment right now, but it has me a little worried. Of course, the defense may be sagging a bit because Teague shot isn't good enough at this point for them to crowd him. Maybe if it improves he'll have better driving opportunities.
