OT: Things to do and see around the arena?

Hey all, I know this isn't the peachiest times for you all... but every team has downturns and upturns. It'll get better!

I'm taking advantage of the cheap ticket prices (much more affordable than the Orlando tickets right now) and taking the opportunity to roadtrip up there with a friend to catch the game. Where are some good places to go out drinking after the game? We're staying about two blocks from the arena so somewhere in that vicinity would be nice.

Also spending Tuesday in town to see the sights and all. I know the standard stuff to do (Coke, CNN, all that jazz) but was hoping you guys could point me to something off the beaten path or something the tourists usually miss.

I wouldn't mind visiting Emory since I am contemplating going there for law school... about how far of a trip is it from the arena area?

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.

The city is spread out so close is a kind of hard a call. Can't help you out with the drinking. I'm old and don't really drink anymore.

Directions link failed so I re-edited. Go north to North Avenue, turn right and head East. Stay to the left side as it splits (Ponce DeLeon). If not an option (it's been a while for me) take a left to go the block north to get back to Ponce. Keep going east until Ponce splits into Clifton on the left that will take you up to the Emory Law area. If you make it out to Emory area I always liked Everybody's Pizza (I think there is one in the Highlands also).

The Virginia Highlands (intersection of Virginia Ave and Highland Ave) have some very good restaurants and bars. You might want to try Metalsome Monday at the Dark Horse Tavern. To get their take Highland north from Ponce. It'll be an intersection shortly after Freedom Pwky (Carter Center area).

Little 5 Points further east (Moreland and Euclid) also has some places of interest. Go South on Moreland from Ponce. it's probably the next major intersection after Highland. Both the Highlands and Little 5 are before you get to the Clifton split and Emory area.

Enjoy the pillaging of Atlanta, Magic Fans, be careful on rape that's still prosecuted.

Thank you very much for that! I will be sure and try those places out.

Does anyone have advice on scalping tickets? I know it just was recently made legal here in FL... I won't get in any legal trouble will I? We have some good reliable scalpers by our arena, should I expect to find the same at Philips or just try and buy online before?

Can't help there. Season ticket holder and I enter through the parking garage so I don't even see scalpers. There is a law about distance from the arena (1000 ft maybe?). Outside that you should be okay. In the national media post they said there were cheap tickets on StubHub. It's up to you either way, but given the way the Hawks played in game 3 I'd expect tickets to be easy to find.

Scalpers stand on the corner at the Tabernacle and Centennial Olympic Park.

If you want to see the Magic players go on the bus (normally 2 trips) you can stand on the sidewalk at the Ritz Carlton around 4:30pm or 5pm. On the same street you can find some restaurants and bars.
