Could Hawks / Bucks be possible trade partners?

Hey Hawks fans sorry to hear you guys got swept by the Magic. (Bucks fan here) Even though you guys beat us in 7 I was pulling for you to beat the Magic cause I really like some of your players - mainly Horford, Johnson, and Smith probably in that order. We were just talking over on the Bucks board and the idea came up of trading Gadzuric's expiring, Ersan Ilyasova, and our 1st round pick (#15) in the upcoming draft for Smith. If you guys resign JJ to the max deal, and obviously Horford is probably your best prospect, does that leave Smith possibly up for a trade? Just trying to get your opinions on this and if you would not do this deal come up with another realistic idea. We need athleticism and/or shooting pretty badly to get to that next level. Congrats on a good season and hopefully the Hawks get a new coach so all that talent isnt wasted. If you have any other trade ideas with the Bucks for either JJ, Horford, or Smith I'd be interested in hearing ur thoughts. Our only untouchables at this point are Jennings and Bogut, and I'm assuming you all feel the same about JJ and Horford but I could be wrong.

I never get tired of this part of the forum.
That all sounded reasonable to you, didn't it, ReddRum? Josh Smith for a mid-range 1st and backups?
You'd have to thrown in that little rookie PG y'all have.

That offer is just a starting point to feel you guys out, as I said Jennings and Bogut are our untouchables. Ersan Ilyasova is our most promising prospect and remember you would be getting Gadzuric expiring which is fairly valuable. WIthout including Jennings or Bogut what would it take to get Smith?

Jennings....period.
Let me answer you with a question: without giving us trash, what would you offer for Smith?

I realize it's a bad day for you guys but his offer wasn't nearly as far off as you made it sound imo.
Ilyasova is hardly a throw-in : he's a 22 year old who put up 10/6 in 23mpg in just his second NBA season with solid D and overall play who is on an outstanding contract, a ton of teams with savvy GM's will be calling the Bucks about this kid this offseason. His rebound rate is significantly higher than Smith's when adjusted for minutes, he's a very effective scorer and his shooting continues to improve with range well outside the 3 point line and he guarded guys like Smith himself, Dirk, even Duncan at one stage this season. He'll be a starter in the league, possibly a very good one, but a starter at least. The rest is $7m in salary relief and a late lotto pick.
Given Smith is owed a lot of money for the next 3 years, you guys are about to get a pretty big money squeeze and he has some well documented mental issues that showed up glaringly during the playoffs I wouldn't be inclined to offer a lot more. If it's a no from you then that's OK, but ReddRum wasn't trying to be a dick, he made what many would consider to be a reasonable offer given the circumstances.

I'm not sure there is a way. It would be like us saying, without Smith and Horford (Joe is a fa of course), how can we get Bogut or Jennings. Doesn't sound that good now does it?
Smith is still a young (24) promising player. He basically averaged 16/9 with 2 bpg and 1.5 spg. The Hawks are not rebuilding so a mid-round first and Gadz expiring doesn't do much for the team.

Personnly I dont like Josh Smith that much. I hate his skill set. But you guys can sure as hell get a better deal than a crappy players Expiring and Ersan. Ersan isn't bad. But he isn't good/great either. If you guys were shopping Smith, I saw look for a better trade parter IMO.

I MIGHT take a gamble on an Ilyasova + Michael Redd + Draft Picks.
Yess, Redd was injured the whole season, but you know he is a high character guy and will work hard. Hell, the guy even wore a suit when interviewing to play for USA Basketball in the Beijing Olympics. Trading for him would provide a cheaper replacement for Joe Johnson while also allowing ASG to SnT Johnson elsewhere.

No we aren't really possible trade partners unless you still have eyes for Josh Childress.
BTW, Michael Redd has been injured for the last 2 seasons (and 3 of the last 4 seasons). He is to be paid 18.3M dollars next season. That's 2M more than the max that Joe can receive.

That's true about Michael Redd's salary. He has an 18.3M play option for 2010-2011 which is a no brainer for him to exercise. Just think what the Hawks might be able to trade him for at the deadline. If the Hawks kept him the whole year (then let him expire), they could be players in FA that summer.
