Attendance Low!!! Fix It!

Post#1 » by djjob23 » Tue May 11, 2010 6:33 pm

Bring in a popular coach (Doug Collins, Avery Johnson, etc.) and throw everything you have to get a popular player (Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, etc.)!!!

Not sure how to do it. But this off-season is going to be an exciting one for Hawks fans, and why not give the fans what they want. Because if you please the fans, you make a profit!!!

I appreciate the desire to improve attendance but a simple understanding of how the league works is needed. The league rules make it so that a team can almost always offer more to keep their star players. Let's take Dwayne Wade for instance. We could contact him and say that we'd pay him as much as possible within the system if he comes here. If he says yes we would still have to work out a sign and trade deal with Miami. It's that difficult to add a star in free agency if you don't have enough cap room. If you do have cap room you have to do almost the same thing or have the star willing to accept less to join you. In order to trade for a star you have to have a team that wants to trade the star and the assets to get them. This is unlikely as well. The way most stars are acquired is via the draft (or a draft day trade to draft a player).

Saying we should get Chris Paul or Dwayne Wade has little basis in reality because it just can't be done. Also signing a popular coach might sell a few tickets, but won't create sell-outs. It is ultimately the product on the floor that sells tickets. That doesn't get fixed instantly by waving a wand.
