Joe for a draft pick

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Tue May 18, 2010 10:24 am

Joe for AK and the 9th pick from Utah.

not sure if Joe would play in a small market like Utah, but would be teamed up with Deron.

my first option would be to sign a big time free agent, but this could be a possibility.

looks like it's not only for the draft pick.

AK has a big salary for next season, but he can be signed for a lesser contract after that.
He can also sign somewhere else. I don't like having Crawford and AK as F.A. the same summer, and I can't see him being only used as expiring contract.
If you don't trade Josh, then AK should start at SF, with Marvin backing up both Josh and AK at PF and SF. If we want to get a good backup C at the same time, one like Brad Miller or Haywood, who could back up both Al and Josh, it would mean that you have to trade Marvin too because he would have only the SF role behind AK.

Actually this trade, to make sense has to be part of a bigger project, and it's hard to see it.

Not a bad trade. I think AK is Soild. Grabs boards and defends. The question is..Would Utah do this trade? Trust me. They were watching they playoffs. Joe didnt exactly play like he deserved a max..Well even a raise on his current contract for that matter.

This would require an amazing amount of trust from a lot of people. The draft occurs before free agency. So Utah would be drafting a player for Atlanta on the understanding that Joe will S&T in July? The only way to guarantee that trade would be to pay Joe more than anyone else could offer him. Given his age and the remaining financials of Utah would they do that? As far as trades go, I don't hate it because that pick has the potential to land a quality C. I see AK as just a rental though. I doubt he resigns at a price that makes him a long term Hawk because he's spoken before of a desire to go back to Europe to play.

Bottom line I don't think the organization's would be willing to trust and do what is necessary to pull off this trade.

Joe playing for Jerry Sloan would be borderline illegal. He'd see more open shots than he's ever seen before.

UTAH would love the trade, I'm sure: Joe, Deron Williams and Boozer would make a dynamite trio and the supporting cast would be 1st-rate. But I agree that the timing would make the trade difficult, maybe impossibly so.

I also doubt that Joe wants to live in Utah.

Another random thought is that, since AK is a shotblocker like Smoove, he needs to play near the basket on defense to be truly effective. He and Smoove would be tripping all over each other.

Honestly I don't know how Joe would fit on the Jazz. He just takes touches away from a far superior one-on-one player in Williams and probably doesn't have the bball iq to play in that offensive anyway.
