Guys, Minnesota has 3 1 round picks if Hassan slips past Houston could we package Marvin and our first and second for there 16 and there Second ( which is at the top of the second).

From what I've seen, MEM is looking to move up, not down. Wouldn't necessarily dislike the deal, but I'm not sure if they'd be willing to dance...

A) Marvin is better than moving 9 spots up in a deep draft
B) Why would we take Hassan Whiteside, who is not only a tremendously low IQ player who can't pass (NINE assists in 851 minutes played), but also has character issues?
C) Trading to pick 16 doesn't even guarantee we get Whiteside
D) We can get a very good big man at 24 since this year is very deep, especially for bigs - DX has us taking Kevin Seraphin, who could be this year's Ibaka, but we could also get Alabi, Jerome Jordan, etc.

When I suggested a similar Marvin trade in another thread it wasn't with our first included. Marvin should be enough on his potential to get the 16th pick. Giving up the 24th as well would be overpaying and counter productive as we'd replace Marvin with a project center. If we keep our pick we can pick up a project C like Seraphin and a wing to replace Marvin less expensively as well. This strategy helps especially if the front office wants to retain Joe and the rookie contract would help offset Joe's large deal. That's concept behind the trade is to reset our lineup with a more cost effective SF while increase talent in our depth. I believe we need to either get more from Marvin which means expanding his role or we need to move him so we can invest elsewhere in the lineup. Marvin doesn't make an outrageous amount, but too much for the 5th option on offense while not being a defensive stopper either.

Another note on Whiteside, the one game where he faced a true big was against Tulsa and he got destroyed by Jerome Jordan. I'm not saying that to advocate Jordan or to totally dismiss Whiteside, but to illustrate that Whiteside is a lot further away from contributing that his hyped draft position would indicate. If you trade up for him it still doesn't mean you get much return until year 3 and that's only if we actually get a good big man coach in here.
