Would We Want Stan Van Gundy?

If Orlando was foolish enough to let him go after this series, would we even hesitate to make Stan Van Gundy the HC of the Hawks?

This seems like a given. He has won 65% of his regular season games. He has 4 Division Titles in 5 full seasons as head coach. He has never had a season with a losing record.

He has won 59% of his Postseason games. He has made 3 appearances in the Eastern Conf Finals. And of course he led ORL to the NBA Finals last season.

I hear people say he is a complainer and he talks too much....but I think that's reaching. The guy is a winner. I remember his first year when MIA had started the season 0 - 7. Stan recovered and led that team to the playoffs and a 42-40 overall record.
That was PRE-Shaq.

He is arguably a top 5 coach in the NBA. He is unquestionably a top 10 coach.

It probably won't even be an option, but is there even an argument against a guy who consistently wins division titles and makes regular appearances in the Conference Finals? Is there anyone better who is currently available?

He has some annoying habits, but yes I wouldn't hesitate to hire him. If he's scapegoated in Orlando it will be crime.

SVG isnt going anywhere. So the conversation is pointless. Yes, we would love to have him.

Hell yes I would hire him. He is a fantastic coach that gets a bad wrap because he hasn't played the game at the highest level. Don't see him going anywhere though.

Even if SVG was fired, I doubt the ASG would act on it, and pay him the $5-$7 million he would command (currently makes $4m). The same goes for the ASG not acting on JVG.

Why pay a respected coach when we intend to avoid the luxury tax and just try out assistant coaches every few seasons.......

I pined for this guy 5 years ago when we saw what Knight and Woody were attempting to put together at that time. If you remember, SVG and Riley were close and Riley handed the reins over to SVG only to yank them back one year later. Comments by Shaq were uncalled for as well.

He is a very good coach, and wasn't even on the Magic's radar initially. THey don't know how good they have it. They were nothing prior to his arrival.

I take him today in a heartbeat. He beats Woody-ball any day of the week.

Throw Mike Brown and Avery Johnson in there as well. We would be fortunate to get any of these guys after what we just watched implode the past 2 years.

You're going to talk about imploding, and then mention that you want Mike Brown and Avery Johnson? What?

Imploding as in 2 years of stagnant playoff performances. The roster will not be turned over and should not be, but there are a couple of pieces that need to be improved should Joe decide to leave.

The 2nd round should not be considered a successful season. And any of the 3 coaches I mentioned would be a better coach for this team than Woody.
