Al Horford

Guys, we all know that this year if we loss joe we're going to take a step back. How far we'll see.
knowing that and knowing that two of our best players really play the same postion what do you think Al will get in the open market?. Here the question, If you could trade Al for Greg Oden today
( if he can make a full recovery from his lastest setback) would you make that deal? I proposed Al not
Josh because I think a C/PF combo of Greg/Josh is more compatable than Greg/Al and Al would have more trade value to portland because al could still play center there because of there length at PF.
THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT..

No way. Horford is a proven double-double player that plays within his capabilities and is a team leader. Oden hasn't done anything. He is strictly a name and #1 pick. Horford would be the one piece we keep moving forward. Josh Smith is the piece we need to cash in on to jump start our rebuilding.

1. 7 footers who don't suck usually NEVER get traded when they are on their rookie contracts.

2. If you as a Hawks fan don't believe that Horford is a center....then why would the GM of another team consider him one? Aldridge can't play center.

Correct. Could you imagine Aldridge trying to guard Howard or Brook Lopez? My god.

Horford has been the most consistent player on the Hawks roster since the day he was drafted. No way we trade him for a guy who can't consistently make it to the court and who is still developing both offensively and defensively. Oden is halfway to bust status at this point.

I MIGHT consider trading Marvin Williams for Greg Oden......maybe.

Problem is that if you want to play Al at the PF position (where I think he could become another Karl Malone, minus some muscle), you will have to trade Smoothe (and probably Marvin). No way Smoothe can play the 3 and no way you can keep can have Marvin as a back-up.
Either you will have Marvin- Al- C (gained in a trade for Smoothe) or SF- Al- C. I would prefer the 2nd option, revamping the frontcourt around Al.

1st thought: Why would Smith be more compatible w/ Oden than Horford? Smith utter lack of an outside shot would make me think that Horford, not Smith, would be a better pairing w/ a traditional back to the basket C...

2nd: Yeah, I'd pull the trigger. Oden scares me (injuries, sometimes dispassionate play), but in the end, if you've got a dominant C, then you're on the short list of champsionship contenders every year. Oden and Bynum are the only 2 young Cs that have shown the ability (albeit in limited time for both) in joining Howard in that elite company.

your are right, Al would be better next to Olden. the problem is Al and Josh are by far carry the most trade value and really play the same poistion. I don't think you could could get Olden for Josh in a trade, but I could live with trading Al for Olden even if it did not work out in the long run. We ar not going to get better than (4th place) with the team current assets. next year Al going to command close to a max deal and there's no way we can pay him and josh.

Would ATL be interested in this deal?

Kaman/#8 for Horford/Bibby

No. Horford is nigh untouchable except for a true max player.

Why would you guys want Horf in the even larger west anyway? What ever happened to that guy in your avatar, whats his name again?

I would consider it because it could help fix our roster balance, but only if a specific target is available at #8 in the draft. That target is actually Greg Monroe, who I have some reservations about his drive, but I think he's finally reaching his stride. In all other scenarios I'll stick with Horford and build around him.

I'm the biggest Marvelous supporter on this board, but even I would make that trade. I believe Marvelous can be a really good player with the right system but an upper-echelon center would make us a contender. I don't believe Oden will ever be in Howard's class but he can be a 1st-rate defender and rebounder. He and Horford would dominate defensively and on the boards.

Of course, trading for a center would leave us having to also trade Smoove (and from a position of weakness, no less).

Come on, y'all have been dreaming up Kaman trades all year. If YOU don't like him, why should we overpay for him?

How about Pachulia/Bibby for Kaman?

Kaman just averaged 18 and 9. I wouldn't trade Horford for him...but that's a pretty fair offer.

Go over to the LAC board: they've been complaining all year about his selfishness and poor b-ball IQ. Again, if THEY don't want him...

Just judging by their trade thread...they did not want to trade Kaman for Iguodala or Kaman for Sessions,Brewer, and Gomes. It looks like they value him alot more than swapping him for Bibby and Zaza.

I've been reading their site all season. Go back farther than this week and you'll find they've been trying to trade him all year. Just check out their one major trade thread and you'll see all you need to see.

Look at a few posters on this site and you'll find guys who have differing values of our players, as well. Doesn't change what most of us think.

Agreed with parson. Bill Simmons nails Kaman as a player with this paragraph:

Every once in awhile my son will take a marker and start drawing on one of our walls like a graffiti artist. My wife has to use Magic Cleaner to get it off, and while she's cleaning she makes the same face at my son that Baron Davis makes every time Kaman sails an outlet pass over his head into the third row. So yeah, Kaman is having a solid year. But he still has those magic marker moments and should never, ever, not ever, not in a million years, play in an All-Star Game unless all 12 Western guys come down with food poisoning the night before. I can't rank him higher than this.

That's not mentioning that Kaman has missed 83 games over the past 3 years - more than a whole season's worth.

For 3 years I've been trying to find a reason to trade Horford and can't come up with anything. You have a hard worker who can rebound, defend, score some, and is very coachable playing against bigger guys most nights and you still wonder if he's worth keeping around. On the other hand, you have a super athletic PF who is as inconsistent as they come, can't rebound, is a much worse defender than rated by some of you and is any coach's worst night mare, but hey, who cares, he can dunk like no other... he can come up with spectacular plays. Isn't it the highlight fatory at the end anyway??????????????????
