- Draft Trade: Marvin + 53rd to WAS for Thorton + 30th + TPE ($4.5M Gooden or $1.5M Pecherov)
* ATL gains more consistent SF in Thorton who's from GA + CASH to help with Joe + Chillz, adds late 1st rounder to get hometown guy who Sund likes, Lawal AND a 7ft prospect Alabi or Jordan
** WAS gets similar athleticism and shooting from Marvin who would fill minutes at SF/PF and pushes J. Howard for starting spot...Trades 30th for 53rd to avoid guaranteed contract or draft player to send overseas...Also keep other 2 trade exceptions
- Draft Picks: G. Lawal (24th), S.Alabi or J.Jordan (30th)
* Lawal's strength and athleticism will allow to make impact right away inside on our weak 2nd unit's interior, Alabi or Jordan can be brought along slowly to develop
- Free Agency: Resign Joe Johnson and Childress (option)
* Moving Marvin opens up room for Chillz
C - Horford / Zaza
PF - Smoove / Lawal
SF - Thorton / Childress
SG - Joe / Crawford
PG - Teague / Bibby
Bench: Mo Evans, [Alabi or Jordan], and add 2 more camp invites or just bring back Mario West + anybody

I don't mind the trade because I am extremely down on Marvin, but I wouldn't necessarily say that Al Thornton is more consistent. He normally plays well against the Hawks, but he doesn't light up that many teams overall. He's a serviceable scoring SF and much more economical if we plan on resigning Joe. I love getting the #30 pick in this because I see this as a deep draft for contributors.
I don't love your draft pick targets. Seraphin would still be my guy if available at 24. If not it seems to me that the best players on the board at that time will likely be of the SG/SF or even PG variety. I'd rather land a swingman who could score off the bench as an investment as Jamal Crawford is expiring (possible guys: James Anderson, Jordan Crawford, Dominique Jones, Damion James). Lawal at 30 is a possibility if he's the best player available. If we get Seraphin at 24, then one of the swingmen might still be available. Even if we landed a SG/SF at 24, then another might still be the best option at 30 (like a Pondexter or Robinson). Another possibility with the 30 pick might be trading down with NY for the 38th and 39th. The idea then would be to target a C like Prestes or Jordan then (I'm not sold on Jordan and would prefer he didn't have a guaranteed contract in case he's got the motivation of Patrick O'Bryant) and Lawal or Booker is projected to still be on the some mock draft boards at 39 anyway and could still be a target. Caracter, Torrance, and others could be candidates here as well. It's not that I hate Lawal, I would just like more bulk if possible out of that slot. If I settle for Lawal I want him as cheaply as possible because there are other PF possibilities that seem just as strong to me.
Free Agency. I'm okay with the resign Joe Johnson part because you dealt Marvin for less expensive 5th option. I don't like Childress though. I think he was overpaid for what he delivered on the court. If we could S&T him then you've made room for whatever we can get in return, but signing him at the 5M range (what I anticipate he will command right now) will likely look as bad as Marvin's 7.5M in a year or two. Childress is a smart player, but he has a slow release on his 3 which means he doesn't help stretch the floor well. While he has good open court athleticism, I seem to recall his lateral quickness was a little suspect and it lead to him getting owned in the halfcourt a lot by whomever he tried to check. I just think we could get as good a player in the draft or free agency or from the sign and trade.
All in all I like your plan. No problem with the general idea, just disagree with some of the specifics.

Not a fan.
A) Thornton is in no way more consistent than Marvin.
B) I don't think they'll take it.
C) Jerome Jordan has no tangible skills, only size.
D) Resigning Joe leaves us with no cap flexibility.
That said, I'll post my own plan when I'm less slammed at work, so you're welcome to pick apart my own plan.
