Atl-Minn?

Chance favors the bold and if we stand still we will get passed. I'm not sure about this deal, but wanted to explore the possibility and get comments.

Al Jefferson
Ramon Sessions (alternatively we could take Corey Brewer back instead)
23rd pick (or lower first if they pick up Memphis's late 1sts)
for
Marvin Williams
Mike Bibby
Mo Evans

Why for the Hawks?
Gets a 3rd big man for the Hawks PF/C rotation.
Gets a serviceable penetrating PG who isn't the defensive liability that Bibby is in.
The extra pick allows for grabbing another inexpensive backup.

Why for T-Wolves?
They dump contracts and get a young SF who if given a bigger role could be considered at a decent contract. It saves a little more than 2M in year 1, 4M in year 2, and over 11M in year 3.

The drawback is that we won't have a SF (unless we switch to Brewer), so we'll need to sign a starter like a Matt Barnes or someone similar or resign Joe and play him more minutes at SF. I don't make the mistake of thinking Josh can play SF except in small doses.

It's not a perfect match for the front line, but I think Al Jefferson will be back to his pre-injury form and those numbers are hard to beat. If it works out the power (not the length) of the front line should keep us in contention for the next few years. If it fails, then we are likely forced to deal one of the big for a small to fix the lineup. I know Al Jefferson and Kevin Love didn't work out in Minnesota, but that occurred while trying to go the triangle. We won't be running triangle here.

Let me hear your thoughts. Am I insane?

BTW, I do realize that most of my trade suggestions have the team buying or taking on commitments to improve the talent. It's just wishful thinking on my part. We are more likely to try to maintain the status quo or just fall back to rebuilding.

Wonderful redundancy at the 4-5 but who'll play SF? You'd have 3 really good PFs and nothing else.

And we'd have no additional money to acquire anybody else for any other position of need.

Now, if you had some good follow-up trades, I'd be all ears.

I'd love to get him but they are rebuilding and wouldn't want Bibby.

More like
Josh Smith, Mo Evans 2010 2nd round
for
Al Jefferson and one of there 1st rounders.

Bibby was for salary match purposes. Not because they wanted him.

great trade, i would do it in a heart beat, but MINN would never agree. at worst case, they could probably get Deng, or go the other direction and get a huge salary dump with KMart and JR Smith.

^ or Wilson Chandler, and Eddy Curry, or Kirilenko and SnT Matthews

I'm not sure what type of offers the Wolves are getting for Jefferson. He has a big salary and teams with cap space aren't willing to check out of the free agency bonanza yet. Denver would be a possibility but I've heard them in connection with a possible Biedrins deal. New York isn't a buyer because they still hope to land LeBron and Jefferson doesn't help that pitch. Utah could land something nice by giving up Kirilenko's expiring deal, but I don't think with their other contract obligations that they are willing to add the long term salary commitment. For their financial health, they are more likely to let AK47 expire and hope the new CBA helps the bottom line. Right now they are already at the cap before dealing with Korver, Matthews, Boozer, and Fesenko.

It was just an idea to throw out there and I don't think we'd be a good destination for Jefferson because he's a starter and we need a 28 mpg C with either greater length or bulk. I think Biedrins would be a better fit for us if we could stomach his 9M a year salary, but our ownership likely wouldn't take that on.

Confession: I get tired of suggesting realistic plans because most people bash them because they aren't slam dunks in our favor or aren't sexy enough. They contain risk and sometimes aren't exciting because they factor in fiscal realities.

Suggest real trades away, Evil. It's spurs better intellectual discussion than "trade Bibby for Brandon Roy!" as if anyone would not be in favor of such a one sided trade.

I only bag on your trades when they involve Hedo.

No hard feelings?

Take out the 23rd pick and I'd still do it.

Agreed. The "Joe for Chris Paul" and "Marvin,Bibby, and Zaza for LeBron" type threads are annoying.

I put the late pick in more as a way to offset the huge salary investment, but I agree that it is still enough talent without it.
