Knicks to court Joe Johnson, Stoudemire

According to espn.com:
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=5334060The New York Knicks will be busy courting other stars that could potentially play with [LeBron] at Madison Square Garden.
Their first such meeting will be with Joe Johnson, the Atlanta Hawks' All-Star guard, according to league sources.
While the Hawks hope to keep Johnson in Atlanta, several sources said the Knicks have emerged as his first choice. If they must lose him, the Hawks' preference is to work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Knicks.
So....anyone on the Knicks' roster you guys in love with?
I am reminded of years ago when Grant Hill left Detroit because THAT team had done all it could with Grant Hill as their only superstar. They managed to at least secure a sign and trade with Orlando and got back an undersized defensive big man by the name of Ben Wallace. That seems to have worked out pretty well.
If we sign and trade for David Lee we could use him or Josh Smith as a trade piece for for another player. If Rick Sund is an even mildly competent GM, Joe Johnson leaving could turn into a VERY advantageous ocurrence.

I like Danilo Gallinari but New York won't trade him to us.
If Joe Johnson wants to be a Knick it's going to happen and I doubt a S&T happens.

True. But the article mentions that NY wants Stoudemire AND Johnson to play beside LeBron. I'm thinking, if they want to have any type of flexibilty, signing all three players outright might not be feasible. But they also would have the opportunity to Sign&Trade with PHX or CLE in that scenario.

No it doesn't.

I think the only team that makes sense (among those with caproom)is Miami when it comes to a sign and trade. I think they could sign Wade,Bosh, and then offer the Hawks Beasley and a future pick(via Toronto)for Joe so that they could have the extra money left over to sign a center like Haywood or Chandler.

Knicks can't afford to get Johnson, Stoudemaire and LeBron.

It would be possible via S&T...but it's highly unlikely.

Curry + Chandler for Joe Johnson?
With Curry's expiring the Hawks could make a run at guys like Monta Ellis, Iguodala, Al Jefferson at the trade deadline and Chandler is a nice player that plays well on both ends.

If Joe Johnson chooses New York then I would just bid him farewell without a S&T or if I did a S&T it would probably just be for the TPE. A dual sign and trade would mean overpaying for David Lee's services and well they don't have a lot else. I would just be happy that he's not going to a potential elite team. If he and Lebron paired up in Chicago with Rose and Noah they could be scary, or if he was 3rd man in Miami with Wade and Bosh then they'd be really rough. Joe and whomever else they can sign in NY doesn't scare me (I'm fairly certain it won't be Lebron).
I still hold out hope that somehow Dallas will swoop in an win Lebron in a S&T (to get him out of the East), but realistically I expect him to either stay in Cleveland or go to Chicago. I don't think his ego would take the trip to Miami.
I think Bosh goes to Miami to play with Wade, but I don't see them getting their 3rd real star. The issue is who's available and what position do they play. Next in line after Lebron and Joe on the wings would be Rudy Gay and I'm not sure they would do that.
Chicago is the wild card to me. They could conceivable land Amare who would not have to play C with Noah there, but if they successfully land Lebron I think Boozer will be the low post guy instead (a little cheaper). If Amare doesn't land in Chicago he'd be 2nd choice in Miami, but since I have them with Bosh I think he winds up in the New York as well. I don't see New Jersey landing a big name this summer, nor do I see the Clippers landing one either.
At least that's what my crystal ball shows, so I'm probably wrong about everything.

I think NY goes after JJ and Amare because they can't get Lebron, so realistically they are looking at JJ and Amare both for the max.

Why don't we consider David Lee + whoever for Johnson, then trade J. Smith's ass for a PG? This team would be great.

I would like to see Bill Walker and/or Sergio Rodriguez come back as part of a deal. I might have heard that Rodriguez is headed back to Europe, but I'm not sure. I think both show some potential and could fit well on our roster.
Other than that their lineup as a whole is pretty uninteresting...

Just what the Hawks need, another PF who is not even as good as the other two. There is no one on the Knicks worth a SnT. Pass.

Off topic...but do you really think the Clippers have a 20 percent chance to land LeBron?

Because Drew is very high on Teague and wants him to start.
And the fact that NY can just outright sign Johnson kinda puts a damper on that.

The plan for NYK is to get 3 Max, and if they don't find a sign-&-trade for Lee (unless they find one for Curry), they will only have space for 2 Max, and it won't be for Joe first.
They will chase James and Bosh, or James and Stoudemire, or even Boozer before thinking of Joe.
Joe will be the 3rd guy in NYK, so it would certainly be a sign-&-trade.
Or they work sign-&-trade for the 2 other guys, getting cap room for Joe, but he would also be signed in 3rd.
I could be wrong, but I don't see them getting Joe by a direct signing.

why not just trade Joe Johnson Eddy Curry and Wilson Chandler like I proposed before?
You can turn Eddy Curry into one of these guys at the trade deadline: Okafor, Chris kaman, Al Jefferson, Iguodala, Monta Ellis . Not only are these guys younger but they would come at almost half the price ATL would pay JJ! and half of the years as well! 3 years compared to JJ's 6.
Chandler(23 years old) + any of the afformentioned guys is a much better deal than paying JJ into his mid- 30's

I don't understand why the Hawks would need Chandler. He's basically another Marvin.
If we are going the S&T route...it makes sense to talk to a team like Houston or Miami because they have multiple draft picks.

I said this earlier. I think the Joe "offer" is a ploy which is why they haven't agreed to terms.
