Maurice Evans has knee surgery

Hawks forward Maurice Evans recently had arthroscopic surgery to repair knee cartilage damage. Evans appeared in 79 games for Atlanta last season, averaging 5.7 points and 1.9 rebounds.

Perhaps the reason he didn't opt out. That injury would of come up in any physical and he would probably be sitting in some park playing dominoes with T-Mac right now instead of having a contract.

It's most likely the case. Reports had him opting out around mid-season and that changed probably due to the damage in his knee. I hope he is ready to make more money during the future and performs at a high level for us, because we'll need everything we can get out of him.

Might not have been the only reason he didn't opt out. Look at how free agency played out for Matt Barnes as well as the wings who still haven't signed (McGrady, Hughes, Murray, Mason, Stackhouse). Passing up 2.5M guaranteed in search of a long term deal doesn't work well if you have to settle for veteran minimum. Not everyone got the love that Wes Matthews, JJ Redick, and Anthony Morrow did and Mo strikes me as being more in the Matt Barnes group.
