Former stars, solid role players still found among unsigned

Five weeks after the most anticipated free agency period in NBA history began, the anticipation hasn't waned.

At least for some guys.

The big-tickets items are all accounted for, taking their talents to South Beach, the Big Apple, the Windy City and ports across the league map. While LeBron James may have sweated his decision, he never worried about landing a gig.

Many others aren't a lucky. They sit in limbo, as their agents continue to work the phones with training camp about eight weeks away. Those max deals are long gone. Mid-level exceptions aren't happening. Instead, exceptions such as the veteran's minimum and bi-annual are the currency those free agents who remain free are hoping to land.

More than 70 players who finished last season on NBA rosters remain unsigned, including former MVP Allen Iverson and two-time scoring champ Tracy McGrady. How bad is it out there? Shaquille O'Neal just inked a deal with Boston for seven percent of the salary he made last season.

It discusses Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Jerry Stackhouse, Louis Amundson, Kwame Brown, Bobby Simmons, Larry Hughes, Brian Scalabrine and Rafer Alston.

Do any of these names interest you?

i really wish we had let JJ walk and just signed Hughes or McGrady to provide similar production for a fraction of the cost.

At least then we'd have some salary cap flexibility with Jamal and AL expecting extensions in the next 12 months.

Looks like Tracy McGrady is going to sign with the Detroit Pistons.

Edit:

1. Tracy McGrady has been signed by the Detroit Pistons to a one year minimum contract, a source close to the situation tells DraftExpress. Draftexpress.com

Get Allen here, it'd be great.

Allen is a great offensive spark on whatever team he's on, he gets in the paint and converts time and time again, he can shoot the three and the mid range jumper too, and he can really be a great spark off the bench. Imagine if Bibby's having an off game, put Allen and he gets his minutes while producing. I highly doubt he'll cause crap in the locker room, that's all rumors.

I also like Lou Amundson's game, good rebounder, very strong and has a lot of heart and hustle and a great defender to boot.

Kind of confused why Amundson hasn't received much interest or signed yet. He had a pretty good season, surely better than Powell's, yet he's still out on the market.

Bobby Simmons is good, it was not his fault that he was overpaid.

I'd be interested in Amundson and Kwame.

Kwame Brown is a cancer who has never accomplished anything in the league.

A) This word cancer, I do not think that word means what you think it means.
B) Kwame plays very good post defense.
C) Kwame is much better than Jason Collins.

Amundson would intrigue me as he could bring more energy to the 2nd unit. Josh Boone is a possibility as well as he had fairly good rebounding numbers in NJ. Not interested in any of the big names like McGrady or Iverson or Hughes.

Kwame can play D, but has no offensive games because of his hands. He's a chronic underachiever who who be a fine acquisition at league minimum. He does have length and size and C is a position where you can get by with no offensive game. I would say the stumbling block would be his salary demands which last I heard were a lot more than league minimum

Anyone except me is better than Jason Collins (really), so we shouldn't use that as a reason to sign someone. Collins shouldn't have been resigned unless he has some tremendous effect on the locker room and the play of those who actually play (because he doesn't). At this point, I would hope that any signing would be because they can fill a role on court. We still have plenty of small roles that could use help so the options are open (unlike the wallets).

Brown shouldn't expect anything more than the minimum. O'Neal and O'Neal both took the minimum to play for the Celtics. They're going to be just as productive (if not more) than Brown.

Actually Jermaine O'Neal scored big with a full MLE for 2 years. The lesson there is that the early bird gets paid. Props to him and his agent for understanding the market. Shaq might of been able to secure a better payday if he started the free agency period without demanding to start and with salary demands above the MLE.
