Great article. I'm pretty excited with all the stated changes - now we just need to see it put into action, and over the course of a season. I hope we don't get out to a hot start doing everything right, and then get lazy and become mediocre, like this year again.

The problem I have over the new system is that if it works out great (which I hope it does) then it really brings to light how many years of my life have been wasted by the employment of Mike Woodson by the Hawks. C'est la vie I guess as I'm not getting those years back, I should just hope for the best moving forward.

Very true. Ill be ecstatic but at the same time be upset if this offense works out. All I know is that our offense cant be worst than it has been.

One part of the article worried me.

L.D. has some work to do with that Woody had a lot of stuff he wanted to run too but he never could coax guys to do it consistently. Things got tough and the Hawks freelanced.

One would think a coach shouldn't have to coax as much as order, but its pretty clear where the power in the relationship lies. I remember hearing Woodson demanding ball movement in a timeout only to have Joe Johnson dribble for 20 seconds on the next play. That's just one example. Maybe Woodson wasn't specific enough or maybe he was already neutered in his relationship with the players at that point. I don't know. I hope Larry Drew has their respect enough to change the mindsets of players that went too many years without a leader they respected in charge.

Hope is a big word here in Atlanta ED because if it doesn't work out, its another 2 years of wasted time that we could have saved on Woody's previous contract. Sund and the ASG didn't make a sound decision that time, and I'm not convinced this move will be much different.
If the ASG was so convinced that LD was the guy, why just a 2 year commitment?

Here is the deal sometimes teams play to one strength and as a player ages he thinks he can do what he has always done. When we see Joe dribble out the clock it is because he has not been convinced that there is a better way. Here is what the hawks should do. Use Horford in the pick and roll with teague and Crawford while Joe spots up sometimes. They could post Joe and use Josh roaming the baseline. In addition the bench could come in with za za and Bibby with a more traditional offense. But the key is to pressure the ball and run in order to take advantage of mismatches. This will also move Josh up to all star level and give Teague a chance to play to his strengths.

^ want to see what Drew can do with Marvin. Marvin is actually the biggest Hawk (tallest standing reach) but he plays like he is the smallest. he has the length to play center, but he gets blocked more than any other Hawk.

Didn't realize he had the tallest standing reach. Sadly I did realize that he gets blocked more than any other Hawk.
